Lions ranked last in rushing yards before contact in 2016.
The Lions? run blocking was arguably worst in the league last season.

NFL.com put together a video tracking a unique stat: average rushing yards before first contact. The statistic aims to measure how well the offensive line is blocking for running backs by tallying how many yards a back picks up before he is contacted by the defense.
Unsurprisingly, the Detroit Lions ranked dead last in the league, averaging just 1.3 yards before contact in 2016. By comparison, the Buffalo Bills averaged 3.0 yards before contact.
The good news, as pointed out by the video, is that the Lions retooled their offensive line in the offseason, hoping to drastically improve on that number, while polishing their pass protection as well.
