Sorry to say amigo, but that is a pure speculation piece with no factual basis. It has to be discarded as total rubbish the minute it says "There is simply no conceivable upside to the Lions releasing Johnson."

There is $11Mm in savings instantly, which is a pretty big upside for releasing a WR everyone knows is breaking down.

Fact is, the Lions would likely have to consider cutting the man even if retirement wasn't an option. The fact he is waffling on a decision just gives new management the ability to do it and stand on "he left us with no choice... we wanted to bring him back, but..."
