Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

Tigers' Kevin Ziomek: Likely won't pitch again this season.
Ziomek has not pitched since May after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, Baseball America's Ben Badler reports.
He made just one start this year with High-A Lakeland prior to needing the surgery. At this point he can safely be ruled out for the rest of the minor league season. This is the same injury that once plagued Jaime Garcia, and even had people writing off Garcia as someone who was unlikely to ever stay healthy over a full season. Thoracic outlet syndrome involves the compression of blood vessels and nerves that extend from the neck to the shoulder. It's possible Ziomek will be ready to pitch in games once spring training arrives, but this is a major setback in his development.

Tyler Alexander, LHP, Tigers: Age 22, impressive season in High-A/Double-A with 2.55 ERA, 100/17 K/BB in 130 innings, panning out so far.
