Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

The Tigers Minor League Players of the Month of April were J.D. Martinez, who started in left field Tuesday night for the Tigers, and Jake Thompson.

In April, Martinez batted .308 with 10 homers, 22 RBIs and 16 runs for Triple-A Toledo. With Class A Advanced Lakeland, Thompson went 2-1 with a 1.20 ERA in the season's first month. He struck out 28 batters.

Pipeline Hitting Prospects of the week.

Honorable Mention;
Steven Moya, OF, Erie SeaWolves: (Tigers' No. 20 prospect) 7 G, 12-for-28 (.429/.429/.857), 1.286 OPS, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 1 SB, 6 R.

Pipeline Pitching Prospect of the Week: Robbie Ray, Detroit Tigers (Tigers' No. 2 prospect) 1-0, 0.79 ERA, 2 GS, 11 1/3 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Ray made his Major League debut last week, and he pitched like he belonged in his two starts. The left-hander beat the Astros on Tuesday in his first big league game and then, as an encore, shut out the Twins for six innings Sunday.
Ray, ranked No. 90 on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects list, began the season at Triple-A Toledo. He posted a 1.53 ERA in 29 1/3 innings before getting promoted.
Ray got the call to Detroit because Anibal Sanchez is on the disabled list. But so far, Ray is making the case that he's ready for a full-time spot in the big league rotation.
