Single-A Lakeland manager Dave Huppert out indefinitely with health concerns.

Single-A Lakeland manager Dave Huppert will miss an indefinite period of time due to health reasons, the Tigers announced Saturday.

Bill Dancy, the organization's minor league field coordinator, will serve as the temporary interim manager until Huppert is able to rejoin the team.

Huppert, who has 24 years of minor league experience, has served as manager in Lakeland the past four seasons. He managed the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley prior to joining the Tigers' organization in 2010.

Tigers reel in two more from Draft class.
The Tigers announced Saturday that they've agreed to terms with two more selections from the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, fifth-round pick Shane Zeile and ninth-round pick Josh Laxer.

When the deals become official, the Tigers will have signed 26 of their 40 selections, including eight of their first 10 picks.

Zeile, a catcher, hit .324 for UCLA this season with two homers and 28 RBIs and earned All-Pac 12 honors.

Laxer, a right-handed pitcher, had an ERA of 1.47 in 36 2/3 innings for Ole Miss.

Tigers turning attention to international prospects.
DETROIT -- The latest batch of Tigers Draft picks just entered the farm system, but it's time for Detroit to stock its organizational talent once again, this time overseas. History shows the Tigers have used the international signing period to add talent as well or better than they've used the First-Year Player Draft.

This year's signing period begins Wednesday, and while the Tigers' MLB-assigned spending cap doesn't give them room for as many signings as they've had in past years, team officials appear optimistic of adding some talent in key areas.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez has the Tigers showing serious interest in at least one of MLB.com's Top 30 International Prospects. Dominican teenage outfielder Julio Martinez, 19th-rated on the list, projects as a big, potential power-hitting outfielder, already listed at 6-foot-3 and 183 pounds at age 16.

The Tigers annually make a handful of signings out of Venezuela, preferring to spread out their spending cap over several prospects rather than tie most of their money into one top player. Changes to the spending rules limit how much they can do, but they're still expected to land a decent crop of talent.
