Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

July 30 in Tigers and mlb history:

1917: The Tigers' Ty Cobb, Bobby Veach, and Ossie Vitt follow each other in the lineup, each going 5 for 5 in a 16 - 4 win over Washington. Having three players collect five hits ties the major-league record for the century. Cobb also scores five times.

1936: The Yankees, with Jake Powell back in CF for the injured Myril Hoag, drop a 5 - 4 decision to Detroit. On August 1st, Powell will go to LF, with Joe DiMaggio playing CF for the first time. George Selkirk will return to RF. The Yanks loses today when Charlie Gehringer ties the match with a two-run homer in the 8th. Bill Dickey allows a ball to get by him in the 10th and Jack Burns scores the winner. Schoolboy Rowe pitches 10 innings for the win over Johnny Broaca.

1938: Hank Greenberg ties a Babe Ruth record with his ninth home run of the week.

1939 Hank Greenberg scores five runs in a game for the only time, helping the Tigers pummel the A’s 14-0.

1951: Joe DiMaggio makes a rare mental error against Detroit, catching a Steve Souchock fly ball in deep CF and, thinking it's the third out, begins trotting in. It's only the second out, and George Kell scores from second base to make the score 4 - 2 in the eighth. Despite the lapse, the Yanks win, 5 - 4, with DiMag knocking in the winning run in the ninth.

1951: Ty Cobb testifies in front of Congress denying the reserve clause makes 'peons' out of baseball players.

1961 - Al Kaline’s longest hitting streak peaks today at 22 games. 31 for 84 .369, 22 Runs, 9 2B, 4 Hr's, 10 RBI.

1994: Detroit defeats Oakland 14 - 2, as Tiger C Chad Kreuter ties a major league record with three sacrifice flies. He is the 9th player in history to perform the feat.

2008: The Yankees, seeking catching help after losing Jorge Posada for the remainder of the season, acquire Ivan Rodriguez from the Tigers for Kyle Farnsworth.

2010: One of the players traded yesterday makes a splash in his debut for his new team. Starting at 3B for the Tigers, Jhonny Peralta homers twice over the Green Monster as Detroit defeats Boston 6 - 5 withstanding a late-game grand slam by David Ortiz. Armando Galarraga's run of bad luck continues as he is hit on the ankle by a line drive off the bat of Kevin Youkilis with a 4 - 1 lead, and has to leave the game one out shy of qualifying for the win. Rookie Robbie Weinhardt relieves him and picks up his first major league victory.

2011: The Tigers get Ps Doug Fister and David Pauley from the Mariners.

Bless You Boys Tigers blog Podcast 81: Can Brandon Inge play shortstop?

Topics:
?Biogenesis: Ryan Braun cops a plea, Alex Rodriguez the next big target, MLB looks worse by the day.
?Jhonny Peralta: Questions abound - Will the Tigers' shortstop be suspended? If so, would he serve it right away or appeal? What could the Tigers' plan be if the worse case scenario happens?
?Hall of Fame ceremonies: The BBWAA didn't vote anyone living into the Hall, But current members did let loose with sanctimonious pontificating over steroids, ignoring baseball's seamy past in other areas.
?Rob Fick: The former Tiger admits he took PEDs. Apparently, they didn't help him on the field, just get back to it.
?Hello Jose Veras! Meet the former Astros closer, now the Tigers' new setup man.
?Goodbye, well, someone: Should Al Alburquerque be worried?
?Any other deadline moves on tap? Say a left-handed bat?
?Old folks home for former Tigers: Welcome to Triple-A Toledo Jeremy Bonderman and Jair Jurrjens.
?Justin Verlander, Prince Fielder and long-term deals: Albert Pujols' struggles, huge contract, and injury drawing attention to the Tigers' own monster contracts.
?Despite everything, the Tigers are in great shape: Winners of 7-of-8, season high 14 games over .500, three game lead over the Indians and doing so while overcoming injuries to Miguel Cabrera, Omar Infante, Torii Hunter, Darin Downs, Octavio Dotel along with a slumping Verlander and Fielder.
?RIP James Van Horn, aka Eat 'em up Tigers Guy: A funeral fundraising site has been set up at YouCaring.com. Down with Detroit will donate all proceeds from a t-shirt designed in James' honor toward his funeral and/or homeless charity.
