Detroit Tigers will count on mental toughness heading home in ALCS hole vs. Rangers.
from Mlive

The Tigers are hitting .105 (2-for-19) with runners in scoring position in the ALCS and .094 (3-for-32) in their past four postseason games.
Miguel Cabrera is hitting .217 (5-for-23) with three RBIs.

Victor Martinez has a .160 average (4-for-25) with three RBIs.

Alex Avila, who has been banged up and beaten down by a heavy workload, is hitting .080 (2-for-25) with 10 strikeouts.

The Tigers lost Magglio Ordonez, who was hitting .385 in the playoffs, to a broken ankle. Delmon Young, who hit three home runs in the ALDS, is battling an oblique injury and went 0-for-4 in Game 2 after missing Game 1.

The hottest bats in the lineup belong to Don Kelly (6-for-14, .429) and Raburn (4-for-11, .385). But the fact that Raburn leads the team in RBIs this postseason with just four says something about the struggles the Tigers have been going through in clutch situations.

October 11 in Tigers history :

1911 - Ty Cobb of the Detroit Tigers and Wildfire Schulte of the Chicago Cubs win the newly established Chalmers Awards, which go to the league's most valuable players. Cobb batted .420 with an American League-leading 127 RBI, while Schulte led the National League. Using a point system - 8 for a first-place vote, seven for second, and so on - the eight voting writers give Cobb the maximum 64 points. Winners receive Chalmers automobiles. 100 years ago today.
