Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

July 11 in Tigers history:

1917 - In Detroit, Boston's Babe Ruth tops the Tigers 1 - 0, allowing just Donie Bush's scratch single in the 8th. Ruth deflects the ball but the throw by the shortstop is too late. A pinch triple by Chick Shorten in the 9th drives home the only run. Ruth strikes out Bobby Veach, Sam Crawford and Ty Cobb in the 9th, for the last. In early 1942, in a speech in Los Angeles, Ruth will call this game his greatest thrill. (The Babe also relates to writer John Carmichael that his greatest game was the "called shot" in the 1932 World Series.)

1935 - Pete Fox's hitting streak that started on June 13 is stopped after 29 games. The Tigers outfielder bats .397 during his streak 54 for 136.

1973: Jim Northrup knocks in eight runs and scores three times as the Tigers rout the Rangers, 14 - 2. The 3 for 4 performance by the Tiger's leadoff hitter helps him record the 500th run and RBI of his career.

Kinsler just replaced Victor on all star game. I'm glad Vic gets to rest and deserving Kinsler gets to play

V-Mart could be out until after the break.
It's looking increasingly likely that the Tigers will be without designated hitter Victor Martinez until at least after the All-Star break.

Martinez missed his sixth straight game on Friday with a strained lower right side, and although he earned a spot on the All-Star team on the strength of his .991 OPS in the first half, it was announced prior to the contest that teammate Ian Kinsler would take his place on the American League's active roster.

"I haven't talked to him yet, but I think that's probably the smart course of action right now," manager Brad Ausmus said on the assumption that Martinez would not appear in the four-game series at Kansas City.

Pitcher to be recalled for twin bill with Tribe.
Max Scherzer's inclusion in the 2014 All-Star Game has complicated matters for manager Brad Ausmus as he tries to schedule his post-All-Star break rotation.

But Ausmus did make one thing clear: A starting pitcher will be recalled from the Minor Leagues for the doubleheader against the Indians on the Saturday after the break.

"We have to [bring someone up]," Ausmus said. "It's a doubleheader, otherwise [the rotation] would all be thrown off, so we will bring a pitcher up for one of the two games of that day. That I can tell you for sure.
Ausmus declined to name the pitcher Detroit plans to recall.
