TIGERS | MIGUEL CABRERA INJURY UPDATE
Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (foot) will continue to wear a walking boot until a mid-February follow-up exam with the doctor who performed the procedure to repair the stress fracture and remove bone spurs from Cabrera's right foot. Cabrera will be cleared for baseball activities around the beginning of spring training, if his foot and ankle checkout well, but he will not be able to participate in full team workouts initially.

BHQ take: This news suggests Cabrera might not be ready by Opening Day. Regular DH Victor Martinez would be likely to get 1B PT should Cabrera miss time. Likely CF platoon mates Rajai Davis and Anthony Gose could both play regularly without Cabrera, with OF J.D. Martinez shifting to DH. DET has a thin bench and lacks organizational hitting depth, so any Cabrera absence is likely to negatively impact the team's run production in a significant way. Cabrera played through various nagging injuries in 2014, as his HR/F and bb% slipped noticeably from his typical levels, resulting in both lower OBP and his lowest HR total since his rookie season when he was a June call-up at age 20. ?Tom Kephart
Impact: Medium
