Hitting into double plays continues to cost Tigers dearly.
from the OaklandPress

The double plays are part of their M.O., and it?s something they?ve done for years (the Tigers have been top five in double plays grounded into every season since 2011). They even finished first in 2012, with a MLB-topping 156, a year after finishing fourth with 169.

With 47 in 44 games, they?re currently on pace to ground into 173, one shy of the MLB record set by the 1990 Boston Red Sox.

Coming into Saturday, the Tigers were worst in baseball at -3.4 runs, nearly a full run worse than the next closest team, the White Sox. Chicago is at -2.5, which is the bottom of the spectrum from ?great? to ?awful.?

In other words, double plays cost the Tigers nearly three and a half more runs than the average team in baseball.
