Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

After reaching the 1,000 RBI milestone with the Tigers, first baseman Miguel Cabrera talked about how much it meant to him as a reflection of his tenure with the club: "I feel part of this city, this community in Detroit, so I mean, playing here eight or nine years already, it makes me proud ..." Cabrera also said the crowd support the team received in the eighth, and the standing ovation he received after driving in a run, was "Perfect".

Miguel Cabrera savors Tigers' win, 1,000th RBI in Detroit.

Cabrera said not many other players reach a milestone like that because of the player movement in baseball through trades and free agency.
Cabrera, in his ninth season with the Tigers, had 523 RBIs in five seasons with the Marlins.

August 19 in Tigers and mlb history:

1917 - Coaching at third base in a 1 - 1 game against Washington, Ty Cobb gives baserunner George Burns a shove when Burns stops at third on a long hit; Burns keeps going and scores the winning run. Clark Griffith protests, and Ban Johnson upholds him, as the rules now ban coaches from touching a runner. The game is replayed, and Washington wins 2 - 0.

1921 - At the age of 34, Ty Cobb becomes the youngest player to collect 3000 hits when he singles off Red Sox hurler Elmer Myers in a 10 - 0 Tigers win. It takes him just 2,135 games to do that. LF Bobby Veach is 4 for 4, and the Tigers bang out 19 hits. Only RF Harry Heilmann is hitless but still batting .403 on the season.

1941 Hal Newhouser walks 10 batters in a game for the only time but wins anyway: Tigers 12, Yankees 3.

1950: The Gillette Safety Razor Co. pays $800,000 for TV rights to the World Series. Radio rights will add another $175,000 more.

1951: Wearing uniform number 1/8, forty-three inch tall Eddie Gaedel walks on four pitches from Tigers' Bob Cain in his only major league appearance. Bill Veeck's idea of playing the midget was legal at the time but is later outlawed.

2015: In his 1st MLB at-bat, Daniel Norris becomes the first AL pitcher to hit a home run at Wrigley Field. Norris is the first Tigers pitcher with a HR and a walk in the same game since 1970. 15th time that's happened in club history.

West of Woodward Tigers Blog Podcast "The Voice of the Turtle" Episode 43: You have questions, we have answers. 1 hour 40 minutes.

This week's episode is nothing but us answering your questions about the Tigers, their playoff chances, the trade for Erick Aybar, and a few offseason ideas. You asked us about Mike Aviles, Justin Upton, and off-the-wall prospects like John Hicks, and we dutifully provided our best (and worst) answers for your inquiries. We even discussed what it would take to do a daily podcast! (Hint: a lot.)

Of course, there are a couple of tangents along the way. Orioles Zach Britton was discussed as a potential Cy Young candidate earlier this week, so we debated his candidacy, along with that of one Michael Fulmer. Al Avila has had a year in the big boss chair as Tigers GM, and we discuss how he has done in his first season on the job. Rob even gives out a hot take about Brad Ausmus, as well as his suggestion for who could replace him when he inevitably (we hope?) moves on.

COULD FULMER WIN THE AL CY YOUNG?
Rookie Michael Fulmer leads the AL in ERA (2.25), with a sizable gap between him and No. 2 Danny Duffy (2.73).
Fulmer's Cy Young case is complicated because he has a low strikeout rate and won't come close to 200 innings, David Schoenfield writes.

Miggy is one of 7 players in MLB history with 500 plus RBI with one team, and 1000 plus RBI with another team.

NO MATTER THE TEAM, MIGGY GETS IT DONE.
Miguel Cabrera, who reached 1,000 RBIs with the Tigers on Thursday and had 523 RBIs for the Marlins, is now one of seven players in MLB history to drive in 500 runs for one team and 1,000 for another,
the Elias Sports Bureau reports.
The others:
Jimmie Foxx (Athletics/Red Sox)
Frank Robinson (Reds/Orioles)
Barry Bonds (Giants/Pirates)
Ken Griffey Jr. (Mariners/Reds)
Rafael Palmeiro (Rangers/Orioles)
Alex Rodriguez (Yankees/Mariners)

Erick Aybar ? SS ? Detroit Tigers (CBS: 7%, ESPN: 6.0%, Yahoo!: 5%)
Aybar doesn?t move the needle with his power or speed contributions, thus he?s largely dependent on lineup spot and surrounding cast members for value. His fantasy utility receives a lift being dealt from the lowly Braves to the Tigers. Not only does he upgrade the lineup he?s in, but he has also been thrust into the second spot in Detroit?s injury-plagued lineup. Hitting behind Ian Kinsler and in front of an uber-talented trio of Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez is a boon for his run production potential.

Aybar?s full-season .240/.293/.311 slash is dreadful. It?s also heavily impacted by a .182/.225/.209 slash through his first 163 plate appearances this year prior to hitting the disabled list in late May.
Since returning from the disabled list on June 12th he?s hit .284/.344/.398. His above average ability to get on base bodes well for his run scoring outlook down the stretch. If your club is in need of help at shortstop, middle infield or you?re merely looking for some more runs scored Aybar is worth a look.
