Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

October 14 in Tigers and mlb history:

1908: Before the smallest crowd in World Series history (6,210), the host Detroit Tigers are tamed on three hits by Orval Overall, who strikes out 10 in a 2 - 0 triumph. The Chicago Cubs win the World Series in five games. Upset over seating arrangements at the World Series, sports reporters form a professional group that will become the Baseball Writers Association of America.

1909 - George Mullin of the Detroit Tigers outlasts three Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers for a 5 - 4 victory sends the World Series to a seventh game in Detroit. This is the first World Series to go the limit.

1929 - the Tigers sell one of their greatest hitters away when they send Harry Heilmann to the Cincinnati Reds for cash. Heilmann hit .344 in 1929 but will play only one season with the Reds before retiring.
With Detroit, the right-handed hitting outfielder and future Hall of Famer won four batting titles.

1965 - Sandy Koufax pitches his second shutout to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 2 - 0 victory over the Minnesota Twins and the World Series in seven games.

1984 - Kirk Gibson hits two home runs and Lance Parrish hits the other home run to lead the Detroit Tigers to an 8 - 4 victory and the World Series in five games over the San Diego Padres.

2006, Magglio Ordonez hits a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning off Oakland closer Huston Street to send the Tigers to the World Series. With two outs and the game tied 3-3, the Tigers get singles from Craig Monroe and Placido Polanco before Ordonez sends a blast into the left field stands, setting off a celebration at Comerica Park.

2012: The Tigers take a two games to none lead in the ALCS with a 3 - 0 shutout of the Yankees at New Yankee Stadium. Anibal Sanchez pitches 7 innings in another strong outing by a Detroit starter. Hiroki Kuroda retires the first 15 Tigers batters but allows a run in the 6th on a botched potential double play grounder. A blown call by second base umpire Jeff Nelson in the 8th leads to two more runs, and results in manager Joe Girardi's ejection.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE TIGERS?
With Detroit falling short of the postseason at the last minute, Jim Bowden lays out three objectives for the team this offseason. Among the priorities are lowering payroll and getting younger, which could mean shopping some cornerstone players. Offseason to-do lists.
