Tigers | J.D. Martinez not improving.
Detroit Tigers OF J.D. Martinez (foot) has seen his progress in returning from a sprained right foot level off, though manager Brad Ausmus did not characterize it as a setback. He said Martinez has been day to day for 'a few weeks now' and will 'be back when he's back.'
BHQ take: Martinez recently began participating in extended spring training games, with the increased activity presenting opportunity to aggravate the injury. This update suggests Martinez's return to DET is still several weeks away.
Tyler Collins, who has played both RF and CF, and Jim Adduci, who has seen considerable recent RF PT, each get a slight PT boost as Martinez's absence is good news for each continuing in his current role.
Journeyman Adduci is showing more pop in his first taste of MLB since spending the 2015-16 seasons playing in South Korea than in his multiple pre-Korea MLB trials earlier in his career.
Collins is also showing early season pop with a line-drive stroke, making hard contact as signified in his impressive HctX and xPX. He has shown flashes, primarily in a reserve role, in previous seasons. Collins is taking advantage of the extended opportunity provided by DET's OF injuries, and finally could be on the verge of securing a regular role.
Impact: High
