I hope the reshaping word means leaner, better shape, better condition trainers.

As of September 18, Detroit Tigers players had missed a total of 1,358 games on the IL, which was fifth most in the league at the time. Many of these injuries will carry over into next season as well, with Casey Mize set to miss the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and Tarik Skubal set to miss at least a good chunk of the year. After seeing a number like that, the organization decided that something needed to be done, so these changes were made.

In 2022, the Tigers were decimated by injuries but never pinpointed a reason for their health struggles. They used 17 starting pitchers and three former top pitching prospects ? Casey Mize (Tommy John surgery), Tarik Skubal (left flexor tendon surgery) and Matt Manning (right forearm strain) ? ended the season on the 60-day injured list.

2017: The Astros win a World Series game for the first time in franchise history as they defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7 - 6, in 11 innings in Game two of the 2017 World Series. The Dodgers seem headed for a win as they lead, 3 - 2, in the top of the 9th, but closer Kenley Jansen surrenders a solo homer to Marwin Gonzalez to tie it, and in the 10th, Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa hit back-to-back shots off Josh Fields to give Houston a 5 - 3 lead. Ken Giles cannot nail down the win, however, as he gives up a solo homer to Yasiel Puig and a run-scoring single to Kik? Hernandez. In the 11th, the Astros again score two, on a two-run blast by George Springer off Brandon McCarthy, and while Charlie Culberson hits the eighth homer of the game off Chris Devenski with two outs in the bottom of the 11th, the Dodgers fall short by one run. They score three runs over the first two innings to take a lead they will never relinquish. The key moment occurs in the 4th, when Manuel Margot is caught while attempting a straight steal of home that would have tied the game; the play is agonizingly close, but Margot is ruled out, ending the inning. Clayton Kershaw is the winner, while also setting a new record for most career strikeouts in the postseason, passing Justin Verlander.

Rob Metzler from the Tampa Bay Rays to oversee all amateur and international scouting

Christmas comes early, Detroit Tiger fans!!!!

Scott Harris just hired Rob Metzler from the Tampa Bay Rays to oversee all amateur and international scouting. The Rays have one of MLB's best scouting systems. Something the Tigers sorely need.

Metzler will also be a VP and Asst. GM. The Rays were believed to have had an "anti-poaching" policy towards their employees because they were losing so many. The Tigers got around it, probably by offering a more elevated position.

Also expect that more personnel changes will be happening in the scouting department once Metzler has had a chance to dig in. Quick! Someone please gift him a Biiiiig Shovel......

Totally Tigers

Scott Harris says the Tigers will hire a scouting director. The decision is up to new assistant general manager Rob Metzler.
Harris still plans to hire a general manager but hasn't started the interview process. He has no update on the timeline.

2008: The Phillies top the Rays, 10 - 2, in Game 4 of the 2008 World Series to take a 3 games to 1 lead. Joe Blanton homers, the first pitcher to go deep in a World Series game since Ken Holtzman in 1974.

2018: The Dodgers win a marathon Game 3 in the World Series, 3 - 2 over the Red Sox, on a walk-off homer by Max Muncy off Nathan Eovaldi to lead off the 18th inning. The game lasts 7 hour and 20 minutes and begins with a great start by Walker Buehler, who shuts out the Sox for 7 innings. But Los Angeles can only score one run on a solo homer by Joc Pederson in the 3rd, and in the 8th Boston ties the score on a two-out homer by Jackie Bradley off Kenley Jansen. The two teams trade runs in the 13th when the Dodgers manage to score on a two-out error by 2B Ian Kinsler. The score remains at 2 - 2 until Muncy ends the game as Eovaldi begins his 7th inning of work. The game's total time and the 18 pitchers used are both postseason records.

2019: Major League Baseball honors the best relief pitchers in the game before Game 4 of the World Series. Aroldis Chapman wins the Mariano Rivera Award for the first time, while Josh Hader is a repeat winner of the Trevor Hoffman Award.

2021: Shohei Ohtani is presented with the Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award by Commissioner Rob Manfred in recognition of his recently completed season as a two-way player. The rare award had not been given out since 2015, by Manfred's predecessor, Bud Selig, and is only presented to recognize accomplishments of a great historical significance.

GIDDY UP!
Totally Tigers

I am writing this on October 25th but had to look twice at the calendar because it felt like December 25th. Christmas came early for us, Tiger fans! Or rather it feels like Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa and Festivus all rolled into one.

The Tigers are finally making changes. Changes that should have been made 8 years ago in terms of personnel.

And then there are changes that should have been made decades ago as the Tigers ignored all the departments and resources that every other organization had added and improved ? advanced farm systems, analytics, technology, drafting, biometrics, conditioning and others.

It now appears that Detroit will be officially entering the 21st Century.

Scott Harris: "I don't want to create this perception that we are completely cleaning house here. We are not doing that. We are establishing new leadership for a handful of departments that are ultimately going to help us bring more talent here ..."

Sounds as though Tom Moore, the Tigers' director of international ops, will remain with the organization.

Harris also said he feels good about the org's pro scouting under Scott Bream and Sam Menzin.

Few other notes from Tigers baseball ops president Scott Harris:
- He still plans to hire a GM, but is way early in that process.
- Metzler will hire an amateur scouting director.
- Harris has been impressed with pro scouting department in their discussions.
