The Tigers have claimed OF T.J. Hopkins off waivers from San Francisco.To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Kolton Ingram has been designated for assignment.
Hopkins is 26, RHB and hit .308/.411/.514 in AAA last year.He plays corner OF and will probably be in the competition for the last roster spot.

2000: The Cincinnati Reds announce the team has dropped its ban on earrings but denies that the acquisition of Ken Griffey, Jr. is the reason. Players have worn them in the clubhouse, but weren't allowed on the field with them.
2006: Gene Elston is selected by the Hall of Fame to receive the Ford C. Frick Award. During his 47 years in the broadcast booth, the former Houston Astros announcer brought a no-nonsense approach to reporting the happenings on the diamond.

2012: The Cubs and Red Sox finally agree on compensation for the Cubs' hiring of Boston GM Theo Epstein to be their team President while Epstein was still under contract earlier this off-season. The Cubs agree to send pitcher Chris Carpenter to the BoSox, and the two teams will also exchange players to be named later to complete the deal.

He had spent the previous 3 months brooming much of the organization and systematically giving the roster a full edit.
When he took over, there were big question marks at catcher, first base, third base, shortstop, right field, etc. This season, the positional questions are much fewer.
During the first year of his tenure, the Tigers won 12 more games than in 2022 and finished in 2nd place.
The first time since 2016 but they were still under .500.

He had spent the previous 3 months brooming much of the organization and systematically giving the roster a full edit.
When he took over, there were big question marks at catcher, first base, third base, shortstop, right field, etc. This season, the positional questions are much fewer.

His 2023 season ended with Tommy John surgery.
"I didn't even think about my arm. I feel normal...I wasn't nervous. I wasn't breathing hard. I was just ready to get in the box."
Greene said he's been feeling "normal" for a long time now, although he officially still appears on the injured list. He said all that remains is box-checking.
"I'm going to do everything by the book."
