Miguel Cabrera's 1,700th career hit goes under radar.
from Mlive

"One thing lost in the game last night - Cabrera's 3rd hit was his 1,700 hit of his career at 29 years old. That is ridiculous. I was at the game at Comerica last summer after the all-star break when he got number 1,500 and he's already at 1,700. At this pace he'll have 2,000 hits before the end of next season at 30 years old. Absolutely ridiculous."

What we're talking about is just how prodigal a pace Cabrera is on. Considering his career average of 188.9 hits per season, if he stays healthy, he'll reach the milestone in his 1,684th game.

Meanwhile, for comparison, Alex Rodriguez needed 1,686 games; Albert Pujols took 1,650; and Derek Jeter needed just 1,571. The all-time fastest MLB player to get 2,000 career hits was Al Simmons, who starred for the Philadelphia Athletics, but also played one season (1936) for the Tigers.

Tigers Notes: Matt Young designated for assignment; Robert Fick bat in Hall of Fame.
The Detroit Tigers today designated outfielder Matt Young for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster for reliever Darin Downs, who was called up Monday night.

The Tigers have 10 days to waive, trade or release Young.

The Baseball Hall of Fame tweeted today that Robert Fick's bat, which recorded final hit (a grand slam) in Tiger Stadium history, is now on display in Cooperstown, N.Y.

A scoring change has been made from the Tigers' June 27 game at Texas. Prince Fielder is now credited with an infield single in eighth inning. Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler's error allowed runners to advance.
