Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

February 15 in Tigers and mlb history:

1910 - Both major leagues adopt resolutions banning syndicate baseball, which allowed owners to have financial interests in more than one team. The National League votes for a 154-game schedule to open on April 12th, which the American League has already adopted. Other rules: umpires must announce all team changes to spectators; batting orders must be delivered to the umpire at home plate before the game; a batter is out if he crosses the plate from one batter's box to the other while the pitcher is in position to pitch; a baserunner is out if he passes another runner before the latter has been put out.

1940 - The Detroit Tigers' roster lists Hank Greenberg as an OF. The willingness of the team's leading power hitter to switch, at a contract boost, from 1B allows manager Del Baker to find a position for Rudy York.
Also on the list are Dick Bartell, picked up from the Chicago Cubs for Billy Rogell and Pinky Higgins, who had been shopped around. The four, along with Barney McCosky and Charlie Gehringer, produce the stuff that will move the Tigers from fifth to first, although its .588 mark will be as low as that of any pennant-winner yet.

1946 - Detroit's Hank Greenberg signs for $60,000 and then marries New York department store heiress Carol Gimbel three days later.

1990 - Major League owners refuse to open spring training camps without a new Basic Agreement with the Players' Association, beginning a lockout that will last 32 days and postpone the start of the regular season by one week.

Extra points: Verlander-Hunter rivalry.
New teammate Torii Hunter was in Tigers camp in Lakeland, Fla., wondering about his previous pitcher-vs.-hitter relationship with Justin Verlander.

Hunter wanted to know, reports ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, why J.V. was so tough on him, mixing the heat with the wicked curves.

"Payback," Verlander told him. "My rookie year, I threw you a fastball and you hit a broken-bat double off me. So for like the next four years, I had to show you I remembered. ...

"I'd start the game throwing 93-94. Then you'd come up and whooomp, I'd have to throw 100. I don't know if you noticed."

Yeah, Hunter said, he noticed: "I'd be watching in the dugout, and I'd be saying, 'Verlander don't have it today. He's only throwing 93.' Then I'd get up there, and I'd get 98. And I'd say, 'What was THAT?' "

Brayan Villarreal Resumes Throwing On Schedule.
from mcb-tb

Jim Leyland has stated in the past ? to various degrees ? that he doesn?t like pitching Joaquin Benoit and Al Alburquerque on back-to-back nights with regularity, but Villarreal could be potentially headed for that list as well.
they don?t really have anyone that can be counted on for 75+ appearances an 75+ innings of late-inning relief.

Brayan Villarreal says he's 100 percent after reoccurring elbow inflammation ruins his winter.
from Mlive

?I just tried to rest as much as I could,? said Villarreal, who had his right shoulder wrapped in ice early Friday. ?Now, I?m ready to go."
?I don?t feel anything at all anymore,? he said. ?I feel great. There was some inflammation, but it?s no longer there.?

Miguel Cabrera, Tigers playing for ultimate crown.
from DetroitFox

He’s also adding a second bat to his wooden arsenal. Cabrera exclusively used Sam Bats, which are made in Ontario, Canada, last year. This season, he's bringing back the Phoenix Bats, the brand he used with the Florida Marlins. Both are maple and cut to his 34-inch, 32-ounce taper specifications.

Phoenix Bats, made outside of Columbus, Ohio, shipped them in a box bearing their slogan -- “SINGLES SUCK” -- printed in bold, black letters.

Asked if he shares that philosophy, Cabrera shook his head and said, “I don’t know. But I used them when I played in Florida.”

For the record, Cabrera had 121 singles among a career-high 205 hits last year.

After practice, Cabrera invited several teammates to his locker. He placed the Triple Crown -- the one presented to him by Commissioner Bud Selig at the World Series -- on his head and gave a two thumbs-up. Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez and Justin Verlander then leaned in for a photo.
