As of today Jim is 1613-1614 overall. He has one World series title with Florida (wildcard) and three division titles with Pittsburgh. He has on AL pennant win with the Tigers from the wildcard spot and one division winner. He is in the top 20 in victories all time at number 16 right now... Six more wins and he passes Ralph Houk for 15th. I think he needs that World series victory in the AL and he then may get in. can he get in as is or does he need more or a lot more?

851-863......with Pittsburgh...Three division titles.
146-178......with Florida.......wildcard, NL pennant and WS victory.
72-90.........with Colorado.
544-483.....with Detroit.......1 wildcard, AL pennant and WS loss.

He won the 2007 All-star game as the AL manager 5-4.
He lost the 1998 All star game as the NL manager 13-8.

I don't know what hall of fame really means for managers.

After all wins for managers probably mean less than wins for pitchers.

I have always believed Leyland to be an average manager, no more, no less.

Most baseball people that aren't biased think he is a good manager. Looking at some of the guys below him that are in I would say yes.

He is inline with Ralph Houck right now, yet Houck has a better W%. If it was based on right now, no, he shouldn't get in. He would have to at least win one more WS.

After I made my post I thought of Ralph Houk and he wasn't in. and iirc with more wins lifetime over leyland.

There are 20 managers in the HoF as MANAGERS. 1 is from the Negro Leagues. So let's say 19.

All but 2 (Bucky Harris 29 years and Connie Mack 33 years) have better W% than Leyland. Harris won 2 WS and Mack won 5.

LaRussa, Cox and Torre have yet to be selected and all have better records than Leyland.

Aside from Houck, you could also compare Leyland to Pinella and Dusty Baker

Pinella 23 years 1835 Wins .517 W% 1 WS

Houck 20 years 1619 wins .514 W% 2 WS

Leyland 21 years 1613 wins .500 W% 1 WS

D. Baker 19 years 1514 wins .521 W% 0 WS

I agree i think if he can get the tigers that World series Victory he will get in.. I hope he can turn us around and we can do it this year.. To bad about 2006... Damn it was right there for us... I think Jim is a decent manager.. I get pissed at him a lot but it is everyone's fault not just his when they perform as bad as they are right now... Hopefully a big winning streak will come our way soon...

Well he needs that world series win in both leagues to get in...But other then that he won't make it because of his .500 record..
