Draft Thread 2020

Pride Of Detroit Lions Blog Podcast: How the NFL Combine impacted the NFL Draft?s first round. 66 minutes.
Kent Lee Platte joins the PODcast crew to discuss the impact of the 2020 NFL combine.

The impact of the NFL Combine is always a bit overstated. It?s an important part of the process, no doubt, but the amount that a 40-yard dash time can affect a player?s draft status seems to always be exaggerated by ensuing mock drafts the following week.

That being said, the Combine is an opportunity for several players to answer some serious questions about their draftability. For Tua Tagovailoa, it was an opportunity to show NFL teams? medical staff that he was well on his way to a fully recovery. For Isaiah Simmons, it was a chance to show that the crazy athleticism he saw on tape was not just a mirage. For Jeff Okudah, it was a stage to display his crazy work ethic and supreme understanding of the game through team and media interviews.

Put it all together and the top of the NFL Draft may certainly have been impacted this week, and that is extremely important for the Detroit Lions, picking third overall.

So on this week?s PODcast, we brought back Kent Lee Platte to explore just how much of an impact the NFL Combine may have made on the top of the first round of the draft.

Take a listen:

This week on the PODcast:
We break down the NFL Combine performances of the top-tier players in the country: Isaiah Simmons, Derrick Brown, A.J. Epenesa, Jeff Okudah, and, yes, Tua Tagovailoa.

Did Simmons push his way into top-three value?

Was Brown?s poor agility scores really impact the way the Lions look at him?

Did Epenesa fall out of the first round because of the Combine?

How Tua?s positive medicals may benefit the Lions, along with some very, very interesting rumors out of Washington.

Kent breaks down some offensive line options later in the draft.

WRs galore! Who are the best fits for the Lions in Day 2 and 3?

Mailbag tackles the difference between SPARQ and RAS, predicts the Lions? 2020 right guard, and tries to find a career comparison to Matthew Stafford.
