Part of their story of finding each other is that there weren't a lot of Michigan fans there.

I once went though a whole year thinking I was 46 until my sister in law said I was only 45.. Somehow I completely phased on it.

I bought 4+ lottery tickets for Friday.. I'm still buying that island we talked about way back in the past lol... I just saw on the web site cash option is at 254 million on a 433 million jackpot!!!! How far do you want to live away from me? Maybe at that price I can buy 2 islands and we can wave at each other in our boats !!!!

Non-tropical islands are less expensive if you can handle the cold or feel like you have a grip on how global warming will play out. A lot of Canada is beautiful.

Sweet Maybe we can get 3 and save one for a hideaway just in case!!! I like the all weather but its my wife who really likes the sun and warm weather. Then I can use one of the islands and bring the whole board over to it and we can break off into teams and hit each other with Non-toxic paintballs if there is such a thing... Damn i cannot run very well I bet I would get hit a bunch!!!

What the freak i'm i going to do with 250+ million. I may was well hang out with people who root for the same sports teams as me. it would be fun flying in 7 or 8 times a year and taking a elevator up to the skybox !!! Spread the wealth !!!!

You can get a nice one for under $1,000,000. I don't know how much of a premium building on an island adds to the construction costs. a lot of these islands already have decently sized vacation homes on them. add solar panels and a wind turbine & you're all set.

getting there becomes a challenge though.

it's going to be cold as hell in the winter, and maybe even completely inaccessible, unless the surrounding lake freezes solid so you can snowmobile across, or stays ice free.

Warmer climates don't have the same problem, but the downside to tropical/Florida/Atlantic coast islands is the hurricane threat. The storm surge will completely inundate the island. unless you've built a fortress on it with multiple higher floors, you're dead if you don't evacuate.

My ideal would be a bunch of acreage in Northern-Lower Michigan for the summer & fall, and then heading down to Galveston, TX for winter-spring, once Hurricane season is over (November). real estate is relatively cheap there (since it gets hit by hurricanes on avg. every 6 years, and is guaranteed to completely flood each time), and has kind of a chill Key West vibe.

Rumseyhouse lives there, or lived there, I think.

Just don't store any valuables down there, and build your house out of things that can be powerwashed clean. they don't make waterproof drywall, do they? I guess that would be an oxymoron.

If you win the lottery and buy an island and don't build a fortress, shame on you. The island fortress is the entire point!

I see some island fortresses under $1 million that are just island fortresses. Just a structure on a rock. If your island doesn't have trees, or at least significant brush, it's too small and/or barren.
