Ex-Tiger Drew Smyly likely needs season-ending shoulder surgery.

That's too bad. I really liked Smyly. Hope things work out for him and can bounce back.

Stating the obvious, but shoulder injuries aren't good news for pitchers. Definitely not as routine as Tommy John (elbow) surgery and recovery has become. I'm hoping he can recover and bounce back quickly though.

Good read, but it's kinda funny to see that article starts with concern over Michael Pineda's recovery. He was lights out over the weekend, striking out 16 in 7IP. Maybe it's premature to say this, but I think his surgery was one of the rare successes. LOL!

The article was from 2012.

The article was from 2012.

I saw and understood that... I was simply pointing out that the cause for concern and analysis which prompted the article (i.e., Pineda's shoulder injury) is looking to be a false alarm now. The data presented and general takeaways of the article are still spot on, it just made me chuckle when I saw that it was driven by worry over Pineda who has since recovered and threw an unbelievable game only days ago. It was kinda cool to know the outcome and look back at all of the well-founded worry on an issue which has now turned out fine.

Sooooooo am I going to be the first dick to say it? We def won in that trade...
