Federal Judge Strikes Down Wisconsin Voter ID Law

sorry, we can't shoot anyone into space anymore. we have to hitch rides with other countries.

also, does anyone actually think that in person voter fraud is a meaningful way to impact elections? how big of a problem could this really be? even the closest state elections are thousands of votes apart, a handful of people voting 2 or 3 times is just a waste of energy.

If you live spend time in a city, this does happen. I don't think I ever voted in a local election until this did happen.

...but again, this is just a proxy argument. You know it makes a difference. If it didn't, you wouldn't care so much.

I lived on the in Chicago for 10 years, the last 3 on the 1300 block of W Huron and in New York for 8 years, almost 5 of them in Harlem. In the former, on Huron St, gun shots were a more than weekly occurrence. The week I moved in gangbangers were exchanging gunfire in the street on my block - my neighbors car was struck by bullets twice in that shootout. I saw kids draw guns on kids out the window of my 2nd floor unit. Lots of poor people there - not black, mostly Mexican and Puerto Rican - they didn't really get along. One of the cool things was my nickname at the Eckhart Park basketball court was Shaq because I was 6" taller than just about everyone. In Harlem, where high school aged kids in the housing project 2 blocks from my building had smartphones, ipods, etc, etc. A shootout between rival gangs happened around the corner from my building about 5 minutes after my wife and walked passed on our way home from the subway. Turf wars over street corners were a regular occurence - as was the knockout game, particularly along Central Park west.

I know a little bit about urban living. Oh and I voted in every election in both places.

OR just use a utility bill or something like that to prove your ID, as is the longstanding policy, since there's no evidence to support the GOP allegations of fraud that justified passing these laws in the first place.

You and your klan buddies should be shot into space for trying to pass shit like this. it's the 21st century for christ's sake.

Gulo seemed to assume I've never lived in an urban area, how does revealing that in fact, I did live in not only urban areas but blighted, often violent urban areas make me an internet badass? Like everywhere else, you are a complete idiot on the internet. And I bet I have more black friends and have lived in more predominantly black areas than you have, you dumbass racist piece of shit.

Says who? You?

I say that elections should be the net results of the voices of the population. The law is on my side.

Felons lose their right to vote which Is never understood.

There is no "right to vote." There are qualifications that must be met. There are also specified forms of discrimination that cannot be applied to prevent someone from voting. As for felons, there are only two states who prevent felons from voting for life: Kentucky and Virginia.

Then what's the problem? What's keeping you from walking or driving by a polling place on an election day?

Maybe you're a vampire.

How is the idea that getting ID is not a burden inconsistent with requiring ID to vote?

It's inconsistent to say it no big deal when it's obviously a big deal as indicated by the various efforts to make it happen.

Nothing at all, I just think I (and everyone else) should have to show ID to vote. And I'm no vampire - just your typical, everyday, run of the mill badass.

I didn't say the voter ID laws were no big deal. I said getting a state issued ID is not that difficult, even for poor people. They are completely separate issues. Voter ID laws ARE a big deal - they help ensure fair elections. Getting an ID is NOT a big deal - IDs are not that hard to get. There is no inconsistency.

Actually, I wasn't assuming anything about you. I know I said "you" but I was actually relating my own experience.

So you've never lived among the urban poor yet you know better what they have and what needs they lack and what they can and can't get done on their own? Interesting. Please tell me more about my neighbors that you can see from your ivory tower that I missed while living harmoniously among them for over a decade...

You keep trying to explain that like you think I don't understand. What's the point of saying "getting an ID is not a big deal?" What's the point of describing the hurdle as small?

You know it's a big enough deal to impact elections.

The impact to me is positive - ensuring fair elections while not denying anyone who can legally vote from legally voting. It's really the opposite to me - democrats' aversion to the law stems from their use of voter fraud as an election tool. Of course it happens, regardless of what michturd says. That's why I want voter ID laws.

I don't believe the kind of voter fraud an ID check would catch is an election tool that gets used to a significant degree. So it seems we disagree as to what the facts are. I'm all for doing more studies to try to find voter fraud, but the strongest cases I've heard indicating that it actually happens either refer to numbers of bad votes that are so small they could just be cases of error or people with the same names and birthdays voting in two states with no discussion of what the probabilistic numbers of that happening are.

If you want more votes, election fraud involving people voting more than once isn't the easiest or most cost effective way to get them. That's the main reason I'm skeptical.

https://www.google.com/#q=voter+fraud+myth

this is one of those myths that becomes self-sustaining, or is intended to, the more they scream about it.

How very gangster of you. You're so hood.

Not sure what this has to do with voter id laws but I'm impressed
