First real GAllup Poll of 2012 race

Not surprised it's close really...both are pretty close to center and Americans will be stuck deciding who to choose. Obama has been pretty moderate (I have hard time calling him a true liberal) and Romney is probably done pandering to the far right since he's got the nomination.

However it will be hilarious watching Romney debate Obama about national Romneycare.

Things might look a bit different though if Romney ever decides to release his tax returns for the past decade. 72% of Americans wanted the Buffett rule and Romney wants the millionaires and billionaires to pay even less.

close to the center? are you kidding?? Obama voted most liberal senator....we have never had more of a socialist as Obama

It's the Fox News buzzword, so I'm not surprised the old man is throwing it out there.

Obama has the Left of his party pissed at him , his base wonders at times where has the guy campaigning in 2008 gone.

well when the Allen West's of the world run around screaming communist and like you say Fox news pounds it continuously the weak minded of the right become weak minded far right fanatics.

Yes, definitely true. I'm debating whether to even vote for him or not, since there's quite a few things he's done to irk me (continuing wars overseas, throwing out a weak tax hike in the Buffett rule, giving the Wall Street billionaires and banksters a huge bailout, calling to expedite the southern leg of the Keystone pipeline, just to name a few). I have a sneaking suspicion he's corporate-controlled just as much as Romney is, but sadly in our broken voting system, only two candidates will be viable and it's back to the lesser of two evils. My only hope is that he might be able to accomplish something without worry of re-election and hopefully there's no republican controlled house to block everything, but that's a dream at this point most likely.

green party.

no chance in hell of winning, but a strong showing will hopefully influence the dems to at least concede a bit more to the progressive wing of the party.

Romney with a Republican House and a weak Dem Senate would be a nightmare for 4 years.

Say hello to oligarchy

At least you get to live in Canada, but I imagine what the US does has some effect on you guys.

I might think about it. The more this election cycle goes on, the less I think Obama cares about energy and the environment. As long as the US is addicted to foreign oil (and as long as the oil drilled here goes out onto the world market), things are only going to get worse.

FactCheck.org has looked into Newt Gingrich’s claim that Barack Obama had put more people on Food Stamps than any President in American history and has found that it was false. More people were put on the EBT debit card program that replaced Food Stamps under George W. Bush than Obama.
Gingrich also failed to take into account that during Bush’s last year the amount of people receiving EBT tripled and the fact that while Bush inherited a $236 billion surplus from Bill Clinton, Obama inherited a $5 trillion deficit and a recession from Bush.

Obama has created just as many food stamp recipients in 3 yrs(11 Million) as Bush did in 8...

Surplus's are projections, not real money.

Obamacare is not socialism, the government won't control hospitals and doctors won't become public employees...the private health insurance companies will still exist, and they'll actually gain customers.

Owning stock in car companies is not socialism, socialism would require the government to have complete control over the operations of these companies.

The food stamp program has been around for 70 some years, I guess every president has been socialist up to this point.

As for the student loans http://www.newamerica.net/blog/higher-ed-watch/2009/can-you-nationalize-government-program-10475

at least Newt gets pissed off and shows emotion and goes off the deep end , I hope Romney takes up the SNL invite and shows a side of himself that we haven't seen yet....nobody can have that much of a plastic appearance , can they ?

As opposed to showing us the "i have an elevator for my car" side? Fuck Mittens...hes a douche.

stay clear of the Fox talking points....its to easy to smack you around....Bush TRIPLED the rolls in 1 year....lol
But Gingrich goes too far to say Obama has put more on the rolls than other presidents. We asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition service for month-by-month figures going back to January 2001. And they show that under President George W. Bush the number of recipients rose by nearly 14.7 million. Nothing before comes close to that.
And under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. To be exact, the program has so far grown by 444,574 fewer recipients during Obama’s time in office than during Bush’s.

The economic downturn began in December 2007. In the 12 months before Obama was sworn in, 4.4 million were added to the rolls, triple the 1.4 million added in 2007.

You're right about that. Subsidizing and requiring participation in a private insurance system definitely isn't socialism. It isn't capitalism either. It isn't anything. It's just stupid.

You can look at the Canadian system or any European system, none of them do it that way. Insurance companies are about distributing risk at a profit. Everyone pays a little more on average and the people that get hit with whatever the insurance is for are better off for it. When you want a system to require everyone to participate, it doesn't make sense any more. You can't weigh profit and prices against the inducement for people to subscribe to your service when it's mandated. It's no longer just about distributing risk at a profit. That's not how insurance works and that's not how subsidies work. It's a bad way to do both.
