Football team departures

Didn't Bush and Gary leave a year early last year?

Was there any other early departures for the NFL last year?

Completely forgot he went early. Rookie season bordered on outstanding for him. 1 catch, 4 yards, $581K. Looks good to me.

The whole receiving corps was about 1 catch for 4 yds, so not very telling. They had the 2nd to worst passing game in the NFL. Pre-season he was pretty darn good. Not sticking up for him, just putting things in perspective. Their offense was the worst in years maybe even decades.

He should sue whoever gave him that insight after he gets drafted in the 5th rd.

The NFL does not give a damn about production in college. If they did Joe Burrow wouldn't be going 1st overall. They care more about the shit they test at the combine, size, speed, athleticism etc. DPJ checks every single box and then some. He's going to be off the board by the middle of round 2 assuming he doesn't get hurt sometime between now and then.

Winning the Heisman and leading a team to the championship game isn't production?

He probably could have started for the Patriots. They had the worst TEs in the league this year.

It's 1 year of production compared to others that have 3-4 years but will be drafted in the 4th or 5th round. DPJ has the physical tools and his combine numbers will be great so nfl teams won't care if he did not have the stats. They'll also consider the offense he was in and write a lot of it off as the system and inconsistent QB play.

who are these QBs that have had "good production" over the past 3-4 years you are speaking of?

I do agree with you as far as the combine is concerned for skill position offensive athletes, specifically WRs & RBs, and teams taking into consideration the offensive style. A WR or RB that hits a HR at the combine will almost always shoot up the draft board. Other positions, probably not so much. QB's...probably not much at all.

The examples I was thinking of, at least at QB, are guys like Colt McCoy from Texas. He had an obsurd record as a 4 year starter but fell to the 3rd round of the draft. An argument could be made that the other extreme is true if you look at someone like John Ross who was below average for 3 years and then had a huge senior year and gets taken 9th overall but his combine numbers were really good so that helped him a lot too. I just don't see it as a lock that he could have improved his stock by staying, especially with Collins staying and a new QB. I would have loved to see him come back but I can't fault him for leaving.

UW wr Quintez Cephus has declared for the NFL draft

sorry, wrong thread...

Jaylen Kelly - Powell has entered his name into the transfer portal. It's not too surprising given the lack of playing time and the depth at Safety. He's got his degree and will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

other things to factor:

taxes paid on that salary, increased lifelong CTE risk due to blows to the head, increased risk of lifelong chronic injuries to the knees, back, hips, shoulders, or neck.

But he made a lot more than I make to do very little actual work, which is pretty good for him. I mean, if you paid me that much at age 21 to basically exercise a lot, and get pounded in the head a couple dozen times, I'd seriously consider it.

he's got eligibility left?

well, good luck to him

Sometimes I wish he would've got more carries, him and Charbonnet. Haskins did well against UI and ND, but that was about it.
Apparently some eligibility left, but we get Evans back next year and have a good freshman coming in. PT was going to be minimal for Tru.
