Kittenz drop their third in a row, are now at a scintillating 40-96 for the season.

Gonna need to win at least one of the two remaining games of this road series, else creep even closer to a tie with the Tigers '03 team.

If they win even one of the 3.3 games upcoming @ OAK, it will be a minor miracle.

DET is 18-63 in last 81 games (technically, 18-64 in last 82 games). If you double that, it would be 36-126. The next closest team is BAL at 27-54, a full 9 games better.

How does anyone, and I mean anyone, keep their job after this?

Since May 31st, NYY has scored 512 runs to DET's 307. NYY has the winningest record in the AL since. ATL (480 runs) and WSN (474 runs) have the NL's best record.

b/c Chris Ilitch...who:

1) Is planning on selling the franchise (seems unlikely anytime soon, after his clandestine signing of GM Avila to an extension of an as yet still unknown duration). As well as retaining the Tigers organizational tree as it is, with little if any "pruning".

2) Is not selling...but plans to emulate his small market ALCD rivals in fielding teams over the next decade with only small market payrolls in a mid-market region. Then makeup lost revenue from lower or plunging overall attendance figures, with media contracts' broadcast revenue and MLB profit sharing.

3) Is not selling, but will continue to sign low level FAs in the off-season, in the hopes of a few panning out and/or much better still, a couple having outlier starts to their seasons. and later traded for more prospects prior to trade deadlines. In any case the ballclub's days of signing elite FAs are long gone...AND Chrissy is highly unlikely to pull a Martha Firestone and uproot the Tigers' organizational tree.

Absent cleaning house, the Tigers franchise is likely doomed to mediocrity or bust...ala their Lions counterparts over the past 60+ years. It won't matter who they pick and how high in the drafts, if they lack sufficiently top level and new blood in their scouting, coaching, analytical, and player/pitcher development staffing.

CI once told me to "keep my day job." Maybe he should take his own advice and stick to selling pizzas that taste like cardboard.
