Game 2 Lions @ 49ers Thread

Honestly we expected this to be a loss @SF and for the most part if we could have made a stop on 1 of the 3 3rd and longs in the 4th quarter we had a shot at an unexpected win against probably the best team in the NFL right now.

And something to add to that we ARE playing with a complete make shift secondary.

49ers are just that good. This is a COP-OUT.
Lions made huge fucking mistakes that cost yards and gift-wrapped 4 points to the 49ers on that stupid running into the kicker bullshit. The open-field tackling and 3rd down defense still sucks. Not to mention that the clock ran out on TWO of SFs touchdowns that these idiot replacement refs didn't catch.

No team is JUST THAT GOOD anymore. Stop copping out. There were two huge upsets today that proves no team is invincible. This game was immensely winnable with a few less un-forced errors on the Lions' part.

Maybe YOU expected this to be a loss.
COP-OUT COP-OUT COP-OUT.
They learned nothing from last years loss and that's why they lost today. Not b/c of anything the 49ers did.

I wonder what would have happened if we could have gotten off the field on their last drive???

Would've won.

At least there's someone else here who isn't going ho-hum we lost to the best team in football cop-out cop-out shoulder shrug cop-out.

I'm with you dude.

Patchwork secondary, no leshoure, and Stafford still not really performing at his best means Niners are beatable but Lions still have to improve a good deal to make it happen unfortunately. Also I was disappointed in play of LBs too many mistakes and missed tackles by them, especially Levy and Durant from what I saw.

Lions gave away to many plays to win... But it was a winnable game.. I am pretty freaking tired of us laying eggs on national tv.. Missed fg. Missed clock by refs twice.. Running into the kicker.. Way too many Missed tackles and again how many third and longs did the 49ers complete on that last drive verses Gunthers defense? play calling at times was really spotty ... On second and 4 before the missed FG your running game was finally clicking and you try and throw it short to CJ... Stafford has been missing badly the first 2 games on throws... Did pudgy not work out this summer..His timing is really off. Front office has to stop whiffing on running backs.. We need one that can find a hole and exploit it and stay healthy .. This game was so fucking winnable.. I am Very frustrated.. Lions need to make that next step..

The Lions were out played and deserved to lose the game. Don't blame the officiating....it was poor on both sides.

The Lions beat themselves. You cant run up the gut on EVERY first down. The 9ers knew exactly what detroit was gonna do on offense on just about every play. The offensive playcalling was way to predictable.

Also, I understand that San Fran was scheming to stop Calvin, but you have to take those shots down the field. Thats what Detroit is built to do! This short pass game they are trying to use is killing them. Very frustrating game to watch.

no starting secondary.....Lions didnt do to bad....Tenn needs to be a win and it will.
My wife has attended that last 7 road wins and we'll be there sunday

i pretty much expected what happened after i found out our entire secondary was out (outside of coleman lol)..if situations are flipped at detroit 3 of 4 san fran secondary out.. i think you would see a similar result in our favor...offense has to play better...hopefully leshoure does some good coming back for our running game.

I was pretty dissapointed in the playcalling. It seemed like we were trying to make a point that we would stick with the run all day so that 3rd downs were going to be more manageable. The problem was, SF defense is so nasty that most of the 3rd downs were 3rd and 5+

I thought they should have thrown the ball more, figured out a way to get it into Young and Burlesons hands. With how much focus Calvin got, for those two guys to end the game with a combined 2 catches for 22 yards is inexcusable..

Avril got owned the entire game. Infact, all of our DEs got owned the entire game. It was pathetic. Suh played pretty well, he did get caught in a Wham a few times, but thats to be expected when you play a great Oline.

Even though the Lions secondary was banged up, that wasnt the reason they lost. The key difference between the 49ers defense and the Lions defense is the tackling. I havent seen a better tackling team in a long time. Once those guys get a grip on you, youre going down..end of story. It was really impressive/frustrating to watch.

Bottom line is the 49ers are an elite team. In order to beat an elite team on the road you need to play nearly perfect ball. The Lions did not do that. I hope that they take a look at the game film and make the necessary adjustments. The next two weeks are very winnable games. If they can go into the Bye 3-1 Id be satisfied. Then they need to get ready for two tough road games.

Lions weren't gashed without their secondary but Davis beating Wendling for the first TD may be a different story with Delmas. The running into the kicker after the Stafford int was just stupid. The PI never should have happened as the game clock was at 0 before the snap. And the 3rd and 7, 3rd and 14 and 3rd and 9 was very frustrating to watch converted by San Fran on that last TD drive to cap it off with terrible tackling on the 2nd Davis TD. Lions need to tackle much better.

But the other weapons not getting open until the last drive, Staffords eratic passing despite decent protection and Lions run defense on the same traps was very disappointing.

Its slightly frustrating watching highlights of the giants game and they have 3 wrs running wide open 40 yards down the field to win the game with 3 long passes.

I dont even think we run routes that far.....or if we do i wouldnt know about it cause we didnt try to throw it further than 6 yards the entire game. Well once we did and titus felt it necessary to push a guy in the back instead of going up and challenging for the ball. well, ill be fair. twice. the other time titus decided just to stop running all together.

Stafford had 10 passes over 10 yards in the air going 2/10 on them. Game plan was weak and Stafford was somewhat protected that we could have taken more shots. The PI early in the game helped the Lions on the deep ball to Titus. But Stafford was also erratic too. 49ers did a good job covering though, plain and simple.

Let's get the passing game going against the Titans and get LeShoure finally in there.

They just executed their game plan to the T. I fucking hate it because even with our secondary out, if we could have had about 80% execution with ours I believe it was enough to beat them. I would put last night at about 38% and it was still enough to make it an 8 point game. For every crucial drop, they turned a crucial 3rd and long into a first down.

I didnt like the fact that we didnt give Staff some easy passes to start the game. The problem with running on 1st and 2nd down means that his first pass is a must have to keep the drive going. He seemed off the entire half. I wish we would focus on some quick easy passes early get Staff rolling then work in the run game if you want. All and all though we had our chances we didnt play well and still only lost by 8 and we didnt take advantage when we should have.

spreading their D out and forcing their stud LBs to cover is the only way they are vulnerable cause they dont put in dime backs. Instead we ran right at their strength.
