Tigers vs. Orioles Preview: Soft tossers in Camden Yards may produce fireworks tonight.
The Orioles are one of the early bottom feeders, but the Tigers need to abuse Chris Tillman to avoid a bullpen battle tonight.

Miguel Cabrera through his first 21 games of the season:

2016 .275/.348/.450
2017 .273/.356/.468
2018 .329/.416/.513

2 lousy hits, Tillman had an era over 9 before tonight’s game. What is this the 5th time they have been shutout now this year already?

those very non over powering slow off speed this off speed that arms still be thy nemesis for the offense, move up in the box Lloyd

The offense is really good or really shitty.. Need more consistency.

If Chris Tillman ultimately turns things around in 2018, he'll owe the Detroit Tigers a thank-you note.

The Baltimore Orioles right-hander, who entered the game with a 9.87 ERA and had allowed 30 hits in 17 innings, was brilliant on Friday night.

Tillman pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit, as the Orioles beat the Tigers 6-0 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Tigers starter Mike Fiers pitched well through six innings, striking out five and issuing just one intentional walk. But two of the four hits he allowed were home runs, including a mammoth shot by Pedro Alvarez.

Alvarez added a second homer in the seventh inning against Tigers reliever Johnny Barbato.

A double by Jose Iglesias in the fifth was the Tigers' only hit of the game until Nicholas Castellanos beat out an infield single in the ninth. Relievers Richard Bleier and Mychal Givens pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

The Tigers (10-14) have lost three in a row, a span in which they've scored only three runs. The Orioles (7-19) snapped a five-game losing streak and beat the Tigers for the first time after being swept in Detroit earlier this month.

WORTH NOTING

* Tillman entered the game having allowed 30 hits in 17 innings this year. He didn't allow his first hit on Friday until Jose Iglesias doubled with one out in the fifth inning.

* Barbato pitched two innings in his Tigers debut, giving up three runs on four hits. He had one wild pitch, an 85 mph slider that got away from him and sailed straight toward Manny Machado's head. Machado got out of the way and the ball sailed to the backstop, allowing base runner Jace Peterson to advance to second and then score when Machado singled to right.

* Tigers catcher James McCann went 0-for-3, ending his hitting streak at eight games.

The Tigers totaled two hits. Jose Iglesias broke up Tillman?s no-hit bid with a double in the fifth inning and Nicholas Castellanos singled with two outs in the ninth inning.

Johnny Barbato relieved Fiers in the seventh inning and promptly offered the Orioles some insurance runs. Danny Valencia singled and Alvarez homered. Barbato allowed an RBI single to Machado in the eighth.

The Tigers are slip-sliding away from that .500 mark they nearly touched earlier this week and now sit at 10-14.

Boxscore.

24 games into the season and this team has been shut out 5 times and scored just 1 run 3 other times. So one third of our games are 1 run or less...kind of an all or nothing offense.

It's like feast or famine for this club . Score 13 in first Pittsburgh then proceed to score only 4 in the next three games. It is so strange how fast losing streaks come to this club.

What's strange about it? They're not very good.

Tigers are in 2nd place in the AL Central at 10-14 lol. Man what a pitiful division thus far.
