But it will also rekindle a debate about whether Martinez belongs as a clean-up hitter.

Manager Brad Ausmus usually hit Martinez throughout his monster season in 2014 and largely kept him there as he struggled in 2015 and bounced back in 2016.
How patient will he be in 2017?
"I expect that he'll start hitting here soon or later," Ausmus said last week. "But obviously if he didn't, we might have to do something different."

I'm trying to think of a way they might be able to keep adduci and hicks over machado and mathook. Did JD used to play left? Upton to center? Not crazy about upton to center but finding away to keep the best hitters around would be ideal imo..hicks might be even harder to find a place for, 1b/C/DH..much better bat off the bench option..they gotta find away imo
