Game 24 Whitesox @ Tigers 4-30-2017

NOTABLE:
The Tigers played through occasional spurts of drizzle on Sunday, but the game started on time and was never delayed.
More rain is expected Sunday night and Monday.

Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann was ousted after giving up a home run to Todd Frazier to lead off the sixth inning. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.
Most notable in his performance: He induced double-digit swings-and-misses for the first time this season.
Zimmermann has been aided by run support, as he's now 3-1 despite a 6.18 ERA.

Avila and Castellanos each had 3 hits. Upton, Iglesias and Hicks each had 2.
Justin Upton had two hits, including his fifth home run of the season.
Upton didn't hit his fifth last season until June 17.
Jose Iglesias, who had been in an 0-for-11 drought, had a single, double and three RBIs.
Alex Avila had three singles and Nick Castellanos had three hits and an RBI.
The double by Nicholas Castellanos in the first inning was his hardest-hit ball of the year, measured at an exit velocity of 110.5 mph, according to Statcast. He entered the game with the highest percentage of "hard-hit" balls in baseball (54.7 percent).
Adduci and Hicks, since being called up from Toledo eight days ago, are a combined 19-for-46 (.413) with six doubles, a triple, home run and 10 RBIs.

It was an outstanding effort from the Tigers? bullpen, which allowed no runs in the final four innings. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Blaine Hardy, Shane Greene, Alex Wilson and Francisco Rodriguez each pitched a scoreless inning to close it out. Combined, they allowed one hit.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers Win over the whitesox.

Jordan Zimmermann still didn?t look like the pitcher he was last April, but he had better command than in previous innings and collected five strike outs through five full innings work before being replaced by Blane Hardy in the sixth. Zimmermann gave up three earned runs on seven hits.

Francisco Rodriguez looked great in the final inning, striking out a pair and going 1-2-3 with little effort, looking like his old self. A great sign.

ROARS:
Justin Upton is quietly having one heck of a season and isn?t seeing nearly enough fanfare about it. He nailed a home run in his first at-bat in the second inning, then got another hit in the fourth.
Upton joined John Hicks and Jim Adduci in each having a two-run game.

The offense. Everyone was awake and swinging early today, and it showed. Only Victor Martinez and Ian Kinsler were without hits, and in Kinsler?s case it was because his base hit was a result of an error by White Sox short stop Tim Anderson.
This game was a prime example of how good the Tigers? offense can be if they learn to swing early and often.
Before the seventh inning the Sox were only able to collect one strike out, that of Victor Martinez.

HISSES:
The weather. Before it eased up the rain definitely put a damper on the spirits of both players and fans alike.
Though from an amusement perspective the Fox Sports crew got to obsess over the umbrella broken by a Victor Martinez foul ball out in left field. Poor Tony was promised a new umbrella but only got a Tigers poncho.

STREAKS AND INFO:
Multiple hit game for several members of the staff. Alex Avila and Nicholas Castellanos both collected three hits, meanwhile Jose Iglesias had three RBIs for the day.

Most importantly the Tigers ended their four-game losing streak by denying the White Sox a series sweep. It would be nice to see the Tigers figure out how to keep the offense this hot more often.

Mario Impemba announced the Tigers are averaging 3:21 a game right now, the longest in the American League. So if you thought these games have seemed extra long, it?s not your imagination.
The Indians are also in the top five which means the coming week?s series could be a long one.

Sparky would say you don't know if your contenders or pretenders until 40 games.. Kinsler is playing bad, really bad. I might make a drastic move, bench Victor and use Hicks as the DH. Platoon him with Aducci. Lefty, righty combo. Until they stop hitting..
