MIGGY'S MILESTONES:
Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera reached 2,715 career hits with his single in the third inning. That tied Bill Buckner for 65th all-time and puts him one behind Rusty Staub (2,716) for 64th all-time.
Staub, who died last year, played part of his career with the Tigers.
Another big name looms on the list: Cabrera is just six hits behind Lou Gehrig.

Yay. Lets see if we can get to .500 tomorrow.

Only 2 games out of a wild card spot now. All kidding aside, with how inept this offense has been on a regular basis, who in the F would have thought we'd only be 2 games out of a playoff spot at this point in the season?

I didn't get season tickets this year because I expected an abysmal product. I don't regret the decision but I'm glad that they're showing signs of life, even if it most likely doesn't last beyond the All Star break. I don't know how much credit Gardy and his staff get or if it's just a gritty group of guys making it work. Probably both? Good on them.

for me, the only two bright spots for the Tigers so far this season are Matt Boyd and Spencer Turnbull. I think Turnbull is just hot/lucky as his minor league stats don't support this hot start. Boyd may be on to something. His K rate is very high (11.6K/9) and he isn't walking many batters (2.2/9).

The big question for the Tigers...if he keeps this up until the trade deadline, do you trade him for some high end position player prospects? He has 2 years of arb. left then will be a FA.

Not a big fan trading arb. guys. What do you get maybe younger pre-arb guys who even have a bigger chance to stink. Sometimes it's best to keep your younger ML talent and add pieces. Even in a rebuild unless you want to rebuild forever. I see no upside trading him.

yes, it's a risk, but it may be a risk worth taking (if the price is right). I doubt the Tigers will be in position to compete for the division until 2021 or 2022. Boyd will be a FA in 2022.

The Tigers farm system is still very light on high end position players. This could be one way to get some (given the scenario Boyd continues to pitch this way)

Another option is to sign him to an longer term contract after the season (4-5 years) while he still has a few years of arb left. A lot of teams do this. It's also a risk, but if the guy continues to be very good the team gets a deal. If the good season was a flash in the pan the club gets screwed a little.
