Game 4: Lions @ Jets Thread

Lions took care of business. I didn't expect it to be easy, as road games usually aren't. Despite their offensive woes the Jets have a very nice defense. Much needed win today, and the team got it done.

Next week needs to be a win as well. Can't throw away wins at home like they did late last year.

A few of my thoughts on the win.

-Offense was efficient without CJ. Got Ebron involved a little, Tate involved a lot....Ross caught a deep ball......even Broyles made a meaningful catch. I agree with everyone that said that this game was a L last year. Glad to see some progression.

-I thought Stafford was great today. His numbers were only good, but he controlled the offense and made plays without the worlds best WR. 10 incompletions when at least 4 of them were just thrown away and one drop by Reggie Bush. He didn't force ANYTHING and consistently moved the chains.

-Running game is regressing. I'm a little concerned that as well as we have thrown it at times, with the weapons we have in the passing game.....that there are not more running lanes for two pretty good RB's. The o-line needs to get better. Lombardi needs to call plays that help a bit more, too.

-On that note.....Lombardi seems to be learning on the job. He has some good.....the naked bootleg.....and some bad....continuing to call play-action counters and NOT blocking the weakside DE. He needs to make quicker in game adjustments. I can understand wanting to stick with the PA....but you have to realize that the Jets DE's were not biting on that. He almost get Stafford killed a couple times.

-Not sure why we played so much off man and soft zone coverages. I guess I wont complain too much because we won.....but I am a big believer in an aggressive approach. We have some guys that can cover suprisingly well.....lets take advantage of that when opponents have weak WR's.

-Levy is a stud.

-Whitehead played really well outside of the Jets first series. There must have been an adjustment made after that first drive to help free him up or SOMETHING....because he was all over the field after that. A good game by a back-up OLB playing somewhat out of position.

-This is NOTHING but an opinion.....but this team is good right now.....and for some reason I see them getting better as the season continues. (without a massive amount of injuries, of course) Lombardi will get better and learn what roles these guys are best suited for. Austin will get better and learn when to be more aggressive and when to back off.

-Stafford will get better as he gets more comfortable in this offense. I think today was a big step forward. He also needs to learn when to take shots and when to take what is given. He did that today. Hopefully, there are more steps forward and few steps back.

-All in all.....a good road win against a solid opponent.

-Now, a week from now I want to be laughing at how badly we tear apart Schwartz's defense. I wan't to put up 35 or more against that idiot.

Looking forward to waddle coming back. Too much pressure given up on the right side and not able to get a good push on the ground game

I see the buf game as a similar one to this. they have a solid defense. I think they have much better weapons than the jets on offense but EJ Manuel has a hard time getting them the ball. Our run defense should get a good test.

PS....I just don't understand why you even dress calvin today. Hes way too important to trot him out if hes not 100% and risk losing him longer.

Great win. Got it done anyway they can. Forcing some turnovers too
