Game 4: Lions @ Jets Thread

good news: were winnign a tight game
bad news: were in a tight game with a flat out pathetic team.

Their defense is good however. Usually those teams are hard to blow out. Throw in no calvin and a missed field goal also being on the road. It makes sense.

The offense hasn't played great, but considering we're on the road against a pretty good defense with a barely-able-to-play Megatron, I'd say the offense has been good enough. Better than last year, at least.

The D...a bit shocked at how bad Ivory has gashed us. And the long pass plays. WTF.

Game started off good, then turned ugly...but a win is a win

every win is a good win for sure. sole possession of 1st place....cant complain. But after today I feel no more confident than I did yesterday about playing the good teams on our schedule later this year.

Last year two catches for 12 yards by Megatron is a loss. Your argument is invalid.

I think there were baby steps made in the right direction this game. I really wanted them to slam this game shut with a score off of one of the turnovers, but at least they got the win. We wouldn't have won a game like this last year so it's something to build on. Hopefully the defense can keep up their level of play in time for the offense to get in rhythm by the time the tough portion of the schedule arrives.

Bit of a nailbiter at the end, but Jets have the second best D in the league, I didn't expect us to blow them out. Timely turnovers saved us, but Calvin not being close to 100% gave us a huge blow. Great call on the first down to seal it. Linehan doesn't make that call. I love our coordinators thus far.

Great win Lions, my thoughts:

Our Offense -

Stafford did great against the 2nd Best Defense in the NFL and one of the best if not best defensive coaches in the NFL. He made great decisions, smart throws, used his legs, and did all of this seemingly without CJ. The deep ball to Ross was perfect, dropped that in like a tear drop and the TD throw to Ebron was amazing....Zone coverage throws to back shoulder so that only Ebron could make a play on it.

Ebron, nice to see him becoming involved. His TD catch was great, nice move, route, and adjustment to the ball in the air. Even made sure to hold the ball through the play.

Running game, eh not so hot. But against this defense didn't expect much. Hopefully Bell/Riddick aren't too hurt.

Defense:

We bring so much pressure, just wonderful to see. Levy is a beast, I wouldn't be surprised if he was considered a top 5 LB at the end of the year. Ihedigbo, is a difference maker. I knew he was pretty good but he makes plays. It's so important with Tulloch gone. We missed a handful of tackles that should of been made. Slay needs to wrap up and the Chris Johnson TD run was awful. Whitehead looked good as well....oh and Ansah's pressure was nice!

Special Teams-
Yay we have a FG kicker! Even made a 50+ yarder! Our coverage team seems allergic to making the first tackle, needs to be addressed. Martin with some nice punts, that last one was great 54 yards in a close game...nice. Ross returning is kinda bad right now...

Other Thoughts -
The referee's are just bad when the Lions are involved. Like several plays that just didn't make sense. But in the end our offense performed against the 2nd best defense in the league. Injuries, need to stop we gotta start getting healthier. This was a game we should of won and we did. Stafford needed to bounce back from being turnover plagued and he did. With CJ limited we needed others to step up and they did. With Tulloch gone, we needed someone new on our defense to step up and ihedigbo did.

Looking Forward -

Bills at home. Has to be a win, our team can't lose games like this if we are going to continue moving forward. After that we have the Vikings in Minnesota...another game we should win, no excuses as it stands now. That would put us at 5-1....won't believe that till it happens.

Absolutely right that last year this game would have been a loss solely due to CJ injury. Awesome to see Tate prove himself worthy.

OC and DC got too conservative, should have won by 21.

Looking good at this point but the injuries....ugh. Well, that's why it is even more important to win games early in the year. GB thumping Bears was good to see too. Having a game in hand at the first quarter mark of the season is very good. Need to pad that by at least another game by the halfway mark.

Like others have said, any road win is a good win. But it's definitely encouraging to get a win when our D shuts down another team and Calvin was basically useless today but Staff still had a big day. The god damn field goal kicking is disturbing. Did he slip or something...I couldn't quite tell.

I will say this...I had to move out of state this year for the first time ever...and it's nice as hell to go to a bar and be able to root for something.....at least so far. This was a game many of us looked at as a winnable game...and we won it. In the 3 wins we had this year we've been able to come up with a drive to ice the game. And ever since the first half of the 1st game the penalties have not been an issue. We have a bunch of stuff that needs improvement but there certainly has been plenty to cheer about as well. I'll take what I can get.

Next week we go for the New York sweep.
