Game 4: Saints @ Lions Thread

Michael Thomas, Jared Cook, Lattimore, Davenport for the Saints and you’re talking about Dahl and Coleman???

Dahl and Coleman just as good as all but Thomas. Saints had good wr and cb depth. Gave up 29 and a Stafford mistake saved them another td. Kamara is their offense and they he him. Sanders and Smith are fine wrs too. Murray solid rb too. Had the blocking. Peat is garbage. Upgrade losing him

Close game and lions just missed a couple plays. See how they respond out of bye

1-3 headed into the bye. Fire the coach and start the rebuild process.

I agree, but who’s available? Nobody worth a shit.

I think we’re stuck with that ass clown for the year.

Fuck Patricia.

their starting CBs (Jenkins & Lattimore) who most would say are both better than Coleman. Peat (pro bowls past 2 years) is probably better than Dahl too.

I would say they lost 4 players that were better than the two that the Lions lost.

How does Stafford only throw for 206 yards against a team that is without both of their starting CBs? They have all of these weapons for him, Golladay , Jones Jr, first round pick in TJ Hock, two pass catching RBs that were both taken in the 2nd round.

TE's and RB's when they should have drafted defense every pick the past two drafts. Not that these guys would hit on them.

Matt: Your guys squandered a FOURTEEN POINT LEAD, and then gave up THIRTY-FIVE STRAIGHT POINTS, so, yeah, at some point of the game, they DID QUIT.

Seek professional help. It?s time you realize that the Lions? organization 1964-present is the worst sports franchise in the history of civilization. It will never, ever, ever succeed under this ownership.

Saints have CB, WR and Guard depth. Brees is a HOF QB and had plenty of time to throw. Emmanuel sanders and Trequan Smith are good and solid players. Smith has a ton of speed. Plus Trufant playing hurt. Okudah and AO are young and didn't get a pass rush.

As for CBS, Robinson and PJ Williams are solid. Robinson is a 1st round pick vet. And Stafford didn't have much protection. But he missed some throws too including the terrible pick in end zone.

Defense lost the game. And nobody in league playing defense. In all 8 1PM games, the winning team had 31 points or more. So basically you lose even if you score 30. This isn't only a Lions thing. It is a league wide thing. Lack of crowd noise is very much helping the offenses.

Matt and his weapons couldn't get more than 206 yards in a league where there is no defense played and the team they were playing were down their top 2 CBs??

This loss was an absolute team effort. A terrible performance by the defense and the offense.

Offense has some blame. Including Oline, RBs. But the defense can't continue to have games like that. It was terrible defense and defense is clearly the biggest reason we lost.

What about the WRs. How are they not wide open for Stafford facing two backups. Wide open is not how Marvin and Golladay are built most times. Stafford missed a few (in coverage and one to Marvin Hall who won his matchup) but he made a ton of plays. Stafford basically reason they score 29. 29 is a good amount of points and should win you most games. It wouldn't have won any of the 8 games in the 1PM time slot.

Stafford 3 TDs and led some drives. Untimely sacks, short yardage problems. Saints have three good safeties, some good LBs (not Anzalone) and a good Dline even without Davenport who has been hurt all year.

Need more protection and run blocking. Peterson doesn't have the speed he used to as well. KJ got hurt again but made a big 4th down play. Swift had a solid game but needs to be used more now.

Saints controlled the clock, no protection many key passes. Still scored 29.

Saints have good front 7 sans Anazlone

well, at least you are coming around and understand that the Lions D sucks & they wasted 2nd round picks on RBs and still can't run the ball.

Hey Tavai sucked too from 2019 2nd round. Will Harris 3rd round pick sucks. Walker has been average when supposed to be good this year like previous years. Hand has been solid.1st round CB looking bad when supposed to be a slam dunk (no pass rush doesn't help). Julian Okwara not seeing field much as 3rd round pick. Plenty of 2nd and 3rd round picks

Ashawn Robinson on new team and hurt not plyaing for Rams and only a run stuffer. Had 2 good, 2 bad years for Detroit. Tabor disaster 2nd round pick. Jarrad Davis first round bust too. Lots of whiffs early for Quinn running different defense at the time too.

Swift actually made plays. KJ too

The problem isn't picking RBs. It's the other picks and FAs not living up to potential.

Trufant and Nick Williams FA duds so far. Both dealing with injuries though could be a reason. Shelton above average run stuffer, nothing more we knew that coming in. Flowers is good not great. Romeo Okwara had a nice game actually but average at best. Collins good rating but was not good yesterday.

This defense needs 2 great players and the mid round picks and FAs they did make to step up. Christian Jones at JACK is average at best. Haven't found a good JACK for the pass rush and Collins forced to play Middle because everyone else sucks in the middle

Agree, Quinn has been a terrible GM both free agency and the draft. I also agree the defense has been terrible because defensive guru is not a guru and only worked under one. They need to clean house and hopefully get something for Stafford and take a to qb in the draft.

I know you sneakily mention '64 because that's when the Fords came in but it goes back to '58.

Talent isn't producing. On the coaches for sure for that. Don't know how much scheme it is really.

Too many WRs were wide open on Sunday. Was it the the wrong scheme or players messing up or being too slow. Why is the run defense not working. Bad scheme or players going to run gaps or being outmuscle. Tackling is bad and players getting run over. Bad angles from LBs and safeties

Need to see % of blitzes, % of zone compared to other weeks and the actual play calls compared to the offensive play call/adjustments. Lions ran more zone in Week 3 and it worked some. Did we run more zone now and got torched doing it. Just getting beat in man coverage. Flowers and Okwara can only bull rush it seems. DTs get no push. If we blitzed more, would we get gashed for even bigger plays. Would the blitzes hit home enough. Does the opposing QB get it out quickly from their scheme. It's very complicated on why something would or wouldn't work. And maybe if Patricia did adjust, then the other team adjusted quickly too to beat that new adjustment. Constant changes.

29 points should be enough to win in this league even with Stafford missing a few throws.

Offense.

Lions are tied for 21st in points per game at 24.8
26th in yards per game
22nd in passing yards per game
25th in rushing yards per game

Defense
28th in points allowed per game 31.8
26th in yards allowed per game
10th in passing yards per game
29th in rushing yards per game

So far, they have sucked on both sides of the ball.

Two Prater misses, Swift drop and some red zone issues for FGs instead of TDs. Offense has been good for the most part. Would be 28 PPG real quick at least. We'll see how Bears, Packers and Saints defense shakes out too.

Defense has been bad, long drives not giving offense as many good chances and less time. Do have 4 nice turnovers forced though but need more. Got the job done against Cardinals but needed 2-3 more plays on 3rd down in Packers/Saints game. Bears such a debacle come back allowed but good 1st 3 Quarters.
