Based on flawed metrics. Do you watch the games? I have yet to see a blatantly bad defensive play from him in the games I've watched.

Carpenter to the DL with back issues.
The Tigers have made the following roster moves:• Placed OF Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 27, with lumbar spine inflammation.• Recalled OF Akil Baddoo from Triple A Toledo.
The Tigers have made the following roster moves:• RHP Keider Montero is scheduled to be the 27th man for the second game of today's doubleheader
Matt Manning was not only demoted but bypassed for this opportunity..
There are so so so many reason Matt Manning isn't starting today..AJ has commented to the beat writers. last 3 seasons..Matt manning had one of the most effective 4S FB in MLB regardless of velocity.
its usage and effectiveness has declined in 2024.
Biggest issue..his command has deteriorated and his FB usage has declined from 59% in 2022 to 47% in 2024..his CB..has been crushed in big spots .385 BAA 585 SLG..his BB% has skyrocketed from 6.6% to 9.8% his GB% cratered down to 30%..and LHH are killing him .339/.413/.565
basically he's refused to attack with his best pitch (FB) and he tries to be cute with hitters in big spots.
Keider Montero will start game 2 vs Paul Skenes.. done to keep a day between Skubal and Flaherty
The spending question normally is something an owner could address..but Chris Illitch doesn't discuss anything..but Harris could have explained the idea of payroll expansion a hell of a lot better than he did..CLE has a smaller payroll than DET.
Greene and Skubal will be going into their FA years in 2027..Baez off the books..so low payroll and your two best players need to be paid..if DET is still floundering below .500 in 2026..Scott Harris will be looking for a new job..
Trei Cruz in May .388/.467/.588 10 XBH 12BB
Dillon Dingler 13/23 3 HR last 6 games. .340/.362/.547 in May .300/.343/.525 for the year.
Max Clark has adjusted well at Lakeland. He leads the Florida State League with 30 RBI. OPB .388 and OPS .766 and rising. Has stolen 14 bags in 15 attempts and thrown out three runners taking extra base. Developing into excellent situational hitter. Impressive.
Since 2000 the Tigers have had 19 homegrown international pitchers reach the majors with Detroit. Just 4 of them have served as a starting pitcher - will be interesting to see if Montero is the 5th.
Tarik Skubal trims his ERA to 2.01. His 0.82 WHIP leads the American League.
