Game 74 Detroit Tigers @ Atlanta Braves June 19, 2024 9:20 a.m. MST

When the primary focus of an at bat is a walk, this is what happens. Constantly starting out 0-1 in an at bat because you won't swing at pitch 1 is giving pitchers such a huge advantage.

Would I be going out on a limb by saying, I think there might be players under performing?
I thought about that at one time but how do we know they're under performing - maybe this is who they are?

One thing that bothers me with Canha. He seems more intent on wanting a walk more than a base hit. But the biggest I see with this team is many of them can't seem to recognize a pitch.

I would start by saying hit your career avg or get on pace to hit 20+ homers or pack your bags. Just where is Inge Resign Cabrera he can hit .250!

I think REBIV was a huge fan of walks. I don't think he posts here anymore

Looks like my 79-83 "prediction" in March was optimistic.

"Detroit has simply been spinning its wheels. Kinda weirdly appropriate when you consider the symbolism." From "Totally Tigers" blog. I was thing "grinding gears" but the inference is the same. And what happened to Holly's "it takes time to build a contender" thread ... has it finally unraveled?

We argued regularly about it. I'm sure he's happy now that we basically have 9 Alex Avila's for a lineup.
I doubt he's happy about that. And which Avila, the guy facing righties or lefties?

Tigers really only have 4 of 9 positions covered , SP, C, 2 OF spots. Huge holes at 1B, 2B, SS, DH, CF, and maybe 3B. RP has some pieces but is bottom 10. SP is top 3 in mlb. Hitting is 15-20th.

Any Detroit Tiger fans who gives $$ to see poor performance and then complains about the results, needs a basic econ 101 tutorial. Nothing changes a team's direction faster than thousands of wallets snapping shut.

Bored while watching the Tigers.
The last 10 seasons for Detroit franchises:
Wings(wins and all losses) 323-460 2 playoff apps, some hope now.
Pistons 287-507, 2 playoffs.
Tigers 613-812(through today) no playoffs.
Lions 74-87-2, 3 playoffs & legit now.
True Decade of Despair.

For all the Mike Ilitch defenders out there, the '94-'05 teams were under his family's ownership, too. Only 10 seasons out of 32 complete have they been at or above .500 since the Ilitches bought them.
This is the worst era of the franchise in its history going back to 1901.

Tigers' awful series vs Braves cements their trade deadline approach.
Detroit needed a lot more than that got out of their series against Atlanta.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

After a promising start to the season, the Detroit Tigers are now taking on water. For the first time this year, they are now 6 games under .500. In their last 10 games, they’ve won only 3 contests and just got swept by the Atlanta Braves.
Runs have been very hard to come by. We knew offense would be of the biggest concern but other than that single game in which they scored double digits, they’ve scored 0 – 1 runs each in 6 of their last 10.
The concern now only grows as the season goes on and becomes more complicated. Wins are going to be harder to get and resources are going to become more scarce.
The losses could potentially accelerate over the 2nd half of the season. Scott Harris and the Front Office have to try to find some solutions to stem the bleeding.
So what are the 5 biggest concerns they have to address? Here are my 5…….

Jace Jung is leveling up toward his shot at the big leagues.
The infielder has been productive since draft day, but a few recent signs say he’s ready for his first look at major league pitching.

Should Tigers still be worried about Reese Olson even after gem vs Braves?
Reese Olson was great against Atlanta, but questions remain about his long-term prospects with Detroit.
