Gary Johnson Gaffe

eh... as a Libertarian, he's FREE to not know any information he doesn't want to know, and it shouldn't matter to voters because freedom.

Libertarians are pretty non-interventionist, so it's not surprising that Aleppo was not on the top of his mind.

Plus he was probably high.

Ehhhh: "What difference does it make?" The guy's polling at 7%. No fan of him anyway.

"What is a Aleppo?" It's a derogatory term for a person with Leprosy. How insensitive.

Well, he made the news for a change. That's something.

When he finally understood what Barnacle was talking about, his answer was actually pretty good..."usually, international humanitarian efforts only make the shit work, plus they fuck up our shit in the process...so fuck it."

Were those his actual words, he'd now be polling at 25%.

Just another example of GOTCHA JOURNALISM at its finest..!! Aleppo?? You made that up!!

[I had absolutely no idea when I first saw the video clip of said gaffe because there was no context to it and I don't regularly watch the news]

As in, "What would the Presidential Admin under your leadership do about Syria?"

This is exactly what I was going to come back and say...there's a reason Johnson didn't know what Aleppo is...for the same reason that virtually nobody does...because it's virtually never discussed...because in and of itself it's not very important...it's kind of a footnote in the Syrian "mess," as Johnson described it.

There's really nothing to do about Aleppo specifically. When Johnson figured out that Barnicle was really asking about Syria, in a sneak gotcha way, Johnson had a pretty well thought out plan - the plan was pretty much nothing - but it's as good a plan as any.

Johnson I think is a lot smarter than Sarah Palin, but it was kinda like the Bush Doctrine question - the Bush Doctrine wasn't an actual specific thing; it was what some academics and journalists had to come to refer to Bush's foreign policy choices.

I read some of the stuff it was based on. There was a series of arguments about the evolution of political systems where eventually, democracies have no reason to ever go to war with each other, but other forms of government inevitably go to war and/or abuse their own citizens. It set up an argument to justify an approach that always sought to support democracy and undermine or attack everything else.

I'm pretty sure the Decider did NOT come up with that shit by his self.

No. The guy's name was Natan Sharanksy. But Bush used to mention his book. Sharansky was a chess wizard. Beat Kasparov (While Kasparov played several people at a time. Still pissed off Kasparov.) Beat normal people blindfolded. Played people while he was in prison through letters. He would just remember the board.

In regards to the Bush Doctrine, even if one didn't know exactly what Katie Couric was referring to, for fuck's sake, ask for a clarification, ask to explain the question further, then discuss the Bush Administration's actions or at worse say you support the Bush Doctrine. Don't just sit there like a deer in the headlights.

same goes for her comments about reading "all" the newspapers and magazines, or "practically seeing Russia from her porch."

there's "gotcha journalism" and then there's "being exposed as a complete fucking moron over and over again."

I guess not knowing Alleppo is in Syria and the question is a general question about policy in Syria is a little more forgiveable. but then again... foreign policy is a big issue, and Syria is one of the more "hot" places on the map. alleppo is the biggest city in Syria, I think, or one of them. I knew where it was. Gary Johnson should have. Billary probably does, at least. don't expect that Trump or any of his supporters do.

We have a coffee house here with an 'Aleppo Souk' inspired latte with Aleppo pepper in it. Apparently, Aleppo might be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, occupied since 5,000 BC.

He was asked about it at the DEC meeting today. Said people make mistakes, got it confused with an abbreviation. Pretty good at making fun of himself about it.
