Gio Gonzalez

Well there is really only 2 options for us in that department. Either Austin Jackson or Brennan Boesch. Not sure I would agree with this move as it will be for sure costly unless there are other options out there DD is working on.

I really don't understanding the move right now at least to be honest since all the time when talking about pitching it was looking for a solid 5th starter not someone the caliber of Gonzalez.

Neither one of those two is a lock to be used.

Jacob Turner, however, would undoubtedly be a part of any package required to acquire Gonzalez.

I could definitely see DD trying to sell them on Fields and Young as part of a larger package. I could also see us dealing one or two of Boesch, Jackson and Young if we land the Cuban kid. We could always use Kelly/Raburn and sign a guy like Crisp and I don't think we'd lose much production. Just thinking out loud, but maybe a package of Turner, Schlereth, Fields and Young is enough to get things going.

now the phillies are going to try to make a deal.

Yeah what is interesting is the Phillies are centering the trade around Dominic Brown whom is a 24 year old outfielder whom honestly is only 2 years younger then Brennan Boesch and hasn't shown nearly the ability to produce at the MLB level that BB has so far over the last 2 years.

Yet we would have to center the trade around our #1 prospect (top 15 in all MLB) and other prospects as well. Makes no sense to me to be honest since Brown has not shown much in terms of MLB production.

imo beane is just trying to fleece DD again. if we get gonzalez and it costs either turner or castellanos, illitch should fire DD.

DD is smart enough not to play that. Homey don't play that.

the san fran blog linked earlier said that we are willing to part with turner for gio, so either they are very wrong or DD is being very stupid.

they apparently think that he's as good as haren and should get the same package. hell no.

The only way I could even see DD considering Turner is if he was the only top tier player we would involve in the deal. Turner and maybe a lower to mid tier prospect for Gio would be more like it but considering all the talks say it would take MORE then Turner is an obscured asking price.

Same can be said for Castellanos since he is being rumored to be the main piece the A's want from the Tigers. I can understand again if this was just Nick and a low to mid level tier prospect BUT nothing being reported is saying this and it keeps saying more and more then just that.

Yeah, I am against giving up Turner for Gio. There is so much hearsay, that it is impossible to know what has even been said by both sides. If we are going to give up Turner, I personally would prefer that it be for a very good position player.

The interesting fact though would be if we did move Nick as a center piece for Gio we would for sure have a log jam of pitching and the move would probably allow us to then move either Porcello, Turner, Scherzer or Smyly for a needed position player. It is for sure going to make for a couple interesting last couple days here at the winter meetings.

I could see us being trade partners with the Yankees in that scenario. They need pitching and we could use a guy like Gardner.

And as well don't forget IF the Marlins are able to acquire Pujols today they would still be in need of pitching. :)

@DKnobler
DKnobler A's asking teams for high-end, low-price return for Gio. Preference is for players with zero or little big-league experience.

@DKnobler
DKnobler Tigers asked on Gio, did not like price. Offer had to start with Turner, and more
