Dumped that huge salary on Charlotte. Would have to believe Charlie will be axed with the amnesty.

I can't believe we got anyone to take that contract. Hopefully the Charlie V amnesty is up next.

Corey Maggette? He actually had a better year than Gordon on both ends of the court. But he will be gone after one year for sure

The reason why I hate the NBA. Trades make no sense. Trade a guy to get rid of salary, throw in a pick and basically get nothing for it.

Its because Draft Picks in the NBA are worthless unless they are Top 3 at best. And the one we traded is protected, so its worth even less. NBA needs to get rid of the guaranteed contracts, its what leads to this.

Kinda the same player...So getting rid of the contract and the protected first rounder.

This is just last years stats..
Gordon 12.5 pts ......rebounds 3.1....ast.....3.3...t/o...3.0
Maggette 15..............3.9........................1.2......t/0....1.8.

same player...So whats the next move?

Amnesty Charlie Villanueva would be the next move I would think. Try to add someone via the draft to start alongside Greg Monroe. Then in Free Agency try and bring in someone that can make a strong impact on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball.

Yeah I get the feeling that some people view an NBA 1st rd pick to be as valuable as say an NFL 1st rd pick is and it just isnt the case. We can take the savings and hopefully we can invest the savings in salary in a better player.

Move for the future. We will be able to do nothing this year still because magette has a 10+ mil contract as well. You hope you get the #9 pick to pan out this year and then with Magette off the books next year you hope to land someone decent in FA although itll be difficult to do so with our starting lineup. Thats a lot of hoping -.-

best case is the pistons squeak into the playoffs next year and only give up a first round pick outside the lottery.

If they don't amnesty Villanueva I'll be pissed that they gave up a pick while keeping the amnesty in their back pocket.

It has to be done during the current CBA, and only players signed at the time of the agreement can be amnestied.

Despite the fact that we are paying to clean up a previous mistake, this is a good move on a couple fronts.

For one, the obvious monetary savings. About 2 million next year, and then the 13 million the year after. While that money is only as valuable as it is later used, those kinds of savings make it a lot easier to swallow an amnesty (Charlie makes about 1.5 million more over the next two years than we save in this deal).

For two, this does open up our draft board. We should certainly lean towards a big man anyway, but having more minutes in the backcourt allows us to avoid reaching if all top 10 big men are off the board. Our goal right now should be talent, then position. A center would be ideal, but there is no one besides Monroe and maybe Knight that we couldn't upgrade if the right player is available.

I really didnt think signing Gordon was ever a mistake. His last three years in Chicago he averaged

20ppg 44 FG% 41 3PT% 88 FT% 3rpg 3apg

then he comes to Detroit and in his 3 years here he averaged

12ppg 42.5 FG % 38 3PT% 85 FT% 2rpg 2apg

I don't get it

I don't think anyone believes that but trading a player for a guy that basically won't be around for long just seems dumb. Because the extra cash will land Detroit something good? No guarantee's of that.. All the good players just want to go to certain teams, and Detroit isn't one of them.

To get better you need 3 guys who say lets all go here" or tank and get the top pick. Its just dumb.

The bottom line is that Joe needs to prove he can actually make a smart decision when he does have cap room. His last big go-round was an absolute failure. If this trade does pay off, it won't be immediately apparent.
