Hey, a Koch Brother died today

Being a "philanthropist" vs donating to charitable causes for the tax deduction/benefit ...

Remember, there is the Trump "foundation" that was nothing more than a shell for laundering and fraud. But I'm sure there are some places that got "money" from Trump in a charitable way ...with strings attached.

yeah, everyone knows the real philanthropists are the people who vote to increase taxes so the government can waste it and create a permanent class of impoverished dependents. these are the same people that think Christ was a socialist.

Also, its odd that you never took issue with the corruption of the Clinton Foundation.

oh, I don't believe that. to me, the message of Christ was always very clear... you do this for the least of my brothers, you do it for me.

I just don't believe any of the divinity stuff. I could do without that.

the rest of it is actually quite compatible with... socialism.

Catholicism and Socalism are no more compatible than oil and water. And Christ is adamant about caring for the poor "there will always be the poor" but also adamant about accepting Himself as the Son of God. Can't selectively cull what's convenient to believe. Read Paul's letter to the Hebrews 12: 1-2.

[1] And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us: [2] Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who having joy set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sitteth on the right hand of the throne of God.

C'mon, TM, Koch's passing led to this because what else was there left to say? He was decently smeared and decently dismissed as a corrupt, greedy capitalist with no regard for humanity.

It wasn?t a complaint it was advocation for taking off the rails, carry on, I?m one book of the Bible away from finishing the Old Testament after a year and half slow going... as I find most of it depressing, man can be so evil and self centered, pillar of cloud so angry, in between the absolute wild inner battles journey it takes one on, Looking forward to working through the New Testament over the next year

this is an example why the "flat tax" idea is such bullshit.

10% of income to the Koch Brothers is a ton of money, but they don't need it to live. They don't actually NEED it at all...

10% of your income when you're making $40K or whatever? that's bread money. rent money. and that's even without any other mouths to feed.

most flat tax policies exempt 100% of income below a certain level, I've seen as high as $50k, so your argument is bullshit but good job having a deep understanding of the issues.

In a moral, just society, one you can have with capitalism but is impossible under socialism and communism, taxes aren't assessed based on whether or not the person who earned or even inherited the money "needs" it.

MC's threads usually start with an off the rails rant

not really, Christ taught voluntary charity with one's own resources (time, money, talents, etc), socialism teaches charity with other people's resources, through government compulsion.

Socialism is theft and it says right in the bible, thou shalt not steal. Even if you can't see that socialism is theft, the bible also says, "thou shall not covet." It goes on to say "you shall not covet your neighbors house; you shall not covet your neighbors wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbors." Voting with other misguided people who also covet the possessions of others, to confiscate someone else's property is not consistent with anything in the bible.

Christ does teach that we have an obligation in him to care for others and help them meet their needs. But it's clear that it's expected to be done freely, empowered by the Holy Spirit, not by government coercion.
