Go Blue! Tipping off at noon on BTN. Could be the last game of the year, whether we win or lose, so enjoy it as much as possible.

Predictable. Espically after what happened last night in the nba.

Are they going to name which ever 2 teams won yesterday the tournament cochampions?

I didn’t take old Beline very long to find a new gig.

I think they should run a Monte Carlo simulation and award the BTT to either the highest average finisher or the team that wins the most iterations.

Same with all the other automatic bid tournaments that get cancelled and for the NCAA itself. Seems like the only reasonable thing to do at this point.

This is stupid. We should all just cease to exist at this point. If people start eating each other, start the panic. If not, let life go on.

10,000 cases in Italy with 630+ deaths. That's a 6% mortality rate.

closing down these entertainment venues is a good way to slow the spread of the disease.

Italy and America are not an apples to apples comparison. Italy has the oldest population in Europe and their hospitals were already overwhelmed by a terrible flu season. They had a perfect storm on top of having almost 1/4 of their population 65+. This virus adversely affects the mortality rate of that age group, so Italy is a bit of an outlier. This doesn't even consider how their everyday life is much different than ours in America.

South Korea has done the most comprehensive testing, including mild cases, and their mortality rate is 0.6%.

OK, so Italy is a bad example.

Overall the rate is 3.7%

you don't think closing down large entertainment venues will help slow down the spread of the virus?

The overall rate is likely inflated because of testing limitations, especially here. It's extremely unlikely that our mortality rate is going to stay at the current 2.5% given that 99% of our cases have been classified as mild.

Closing down these venues helps a tiny bit. It's an extremely small drop in the bucket considering every bar, restaurant, retailer, fitness center, theater, YMCA, hotel, public transportation provider, etc. remains open to the public.

This is good on Italy and why they are different than everywhere else.

“This happened right when we were having our peak of influenza and people were presenting with influenza symptoms.”

"Before the first case was reported, there was an unusually high number of pneumonia cases recorded at a hospital in Codogno in northern Italy, the head of the emergency ward Stefano Paglia told the newspaper La Repubblica, suggesting it is possible patients with the virus were treated as if they had a seasonal flu. Health facilities hosting these patients could have become sites for infection, helping proliferate the spread of the virus."

They should replace the tournament with a freethrow and 3 pt shooting contest. Each team is on the court alone. The best combined scores move on to the next round until the final. At least this would be better than canceling the whole thing!

the larger and more concentrated the venue the more likely it would spread and to a larger geographic location. 50 people in a local restaurant will likely come from the same small geographical location. Same with a retailer, fitness center or theater. Public transportation is another story but that is essential.

A sporting event (that isn't necessary) with 25,000+ people in a very confined area for 2+ hours is another story. People come from all over to watch these games...especially in the NCAA tourney. Even if a small percentage get infected, then they go back to where they came from...perhaps to an area that hasn't been exposed yet. That's the danger in these huge gatherings...not just the people that attend...but the communities when they return home.
