How many Lions could've started last night?

Every year I watch the Super Bowl and wonder how far my Lions are from getting to one. The teams in the Super Bowl obviously have stacked lineups so it's a good barometer to see where we are and how far we have to go.

Outside of CJ and Suh, which Lions starts for either of the teams that played last night?

Hmm. Pettigrew could maybe start at TE for Baltimore? Stafford doesn't fit SF's system, but he's probably a better pure passer than the SF QB. Houston would be a nickle back, not a starter. That's about it. No O linemen. No RBs. No LBs or DBs. Only Johnson and Suh are Super Bowl caliber players on our roster IMO.

We've got a long ways to go to compete at that level.

Cliff Avril....lol....for 10.6 million they gave him last year shouldn't he have ?

Suh sits behind justin smith or ngata....

True, but you find a place for him to start on the line, he would start some how for either team, but point taken, even that's not a given.

Some other guys would be in the rotation (Fairley, Houston, maybe Delmas), but it's just remarkable that we have basically only a couple Super Bowl caliber starters.

Do the comparison with any other team and the lowest you could come up with is probably 7 or 8. Remember, I'm saying starting for either team, so our 22 starters have 2 chances to be starters. Pretty pathetic. I would bet other Super Bowl contending teams would have 15-20 players who could start for one of the Super Bowl teams.

For the record, I think Matthew Stafford could win a Super Bowl if we surround him with talent and give him a defense.

instead of who Scheffler ? because he cant hold Pettigrews jock as a blocker.

And we saw the comparative stats and results in regards to how well Pettigrew's blocking helped the Lions' running game and how Pitta's deficiency in blocking hurt the Ravens' running game.

Just because the running game is lack luster doesn't mean Petti isn't doing his job.

compare the pass catching stats with Pitta and 'Grew then....2 less games for Pettigrew and pretty equal stats and he's not even a stretch the field type of TE.

Grew isn't there to spring RBs...he's there to keep Stafford healthy and be the hot guy...253 catches since drafted...he's doing his job.

You have Ray Rice on one side and freakin' Bell and Lecrap on the other.

gee... the 2010 49ers were 6-10; in '11 with nearly the same team, they went 13-3 and made it to the NFC Championship.

If Ford hired Harbaugh as his coach, I'd wager most of the Lions could've started yesterday...

Hired on an 0-16 no way Harbaugh gets us to a SB this early.

he turned down the U of M gig......guaranteed he wanted nothing to do with the Lions

by the way Ozzie Newsome wanted Pettigrew so bad 4 years ago he tried to trade up in the draft to get him.

although the non deal worked out ok for them now....they moved up anyway and got Oher and kept their 2nd round pick which would have been gona to get ahead of Detroit..and that pick turned out to be Paul Kruger.

My point is that Pettigrew as a blocker, no matter how effective he is, is of little value to a team with no decent running back.
