I am dumber now.

I think a lot of the Denard hate from Sparty is simple to explain. Its because of how good Cousins was for them the last 4 years and all he did Denard still overshadowed him. Denard has been loved by the media from his first play as a Wolverine. It drives Sparty crazy when U of M gets more praise and media then they do.

Hit it dead on...why do people hate Tebow? Never done anything wrong that we know of...great guy on and off the field...leader...great teammate...but the media shoves him down your throat and he's a huge deal..people get sick of it and everytime tha players hype out performs his talent on the field, people can't wait to jump all over it. If I wasn't a UM fan I might not be able to stand Denard either. Who knows..I was all over Taylor Martinez when he was being hyped and couldn't throw the ball.

Just got back from lunch where ESPNsucks was on in the background.

The SEC spin machine is in full effect. David Pollack said Alabama would kill UM, Herbie said the SEC has "dominated college football for the past 20yrs" and that the conference that tries to compete most with it is "the BigTen" and Michigan will have a tough time trying to "fix the damaged reputation of the conference in head to head play."

Mel Kiper called Michigan "the most overrated Top 10 team" and then called Ohio* "the most underrated team not in the Top 10."

Then the one guy from ESPNU like Pollack said that if Alabama stops Denard, Michigan has no chance of winning..

Wow. A bit of overkill in preemptively selling a team and conference that is already supposed to win and win easily.

It would FUCKING ROCK to beat Alabama ...and the entire nation outside of Tuscalooosa, some parts of Ohio and Lansing, MI agree.

If that were to happen, watch the backpedaling. I can hear it now about how decimated the Alabama defense is this year, and how LUCKY Michigan was to get Alabama early, Blah, blah, blah. It would be nauseating...

Not to be Debbie Downer but...

If Michigan lost by 17 would it shock you?

The SEC has won like 6 straight national titles and obviously has been the best conference.

Michigan is going to have a tough time..the conference rep is a little damaged with UM just returning to good football and OSU getting blown out on national stages...

Tough not to call Michigan the most overrated in the top 10. I love UM football but the ND game last year was a fluke, we lost to Iowa, looked like shit against VT in the Sugar bowl and were shut down by MSU...Between turnovers and at times just looking like a bad football team UM was able to put together some big plays and have a damn good season but it's not out of the realm that they would take a step back this year with the loss of Martin, Van B, Molk etc... If Denard plays like he did last year, there will be some games where we pull our hair out. Can you imagine how badly we would have been beaten in say a title game last year?

OSU COULD be really good this year...I don't know if they're the most underrated team out of the top 10 though.

If Bama shuts down Denard, we don't have a chance of winning...thats pretty simple.

Exactly.

Twenty minutes of programming devoted to stating the obvious, reinforcing commonly held assumptions about the game and teams and over-selling a stale point.

It all began when ESPNsucks signed its deal with the SEC. Since that point, it's akin to FoxNews covering the GOP.

I feel many of the offensive struggles last year were due to being in the first year of Borges's offense. You could tell the timing just wasn't where it needed to be, especially against good defenses (MSU, VT). History has shown that his offense usuallys takes a giant step forward in year two and that is what I am hoping to see this year. I don't think Denard will look anything like he did last year. I just have a feeling that the passing game light bulb goes on for him. Remember, Borges was also adjusting to coaching a guy like Denard and Denard's fitting type of offense last year. The familiarity should be a great benefit this season. I'm mainly worried about the defensive line. It's a must that guys step up and play well there. I'm not sure that is going to happen, but I'm hopeful.

You just nailed my biggest hope and biggest fear as well.

yes, mine too.

that match up: Michigan DL vs. Alabama OL could be fatal.

I just hope the experts are overhyping Bama's OL (as I expect they are).

I hope Hoke and Borges are all over them day-in and day-out telling them they should just expect to be pushed around, and bama is going to kill them. I hope Will Campbell plays like he's never played before on Saturday...

Unfortunately, they are not overhyping Alabama's line. It's exceptional. However, that is great motivation for a d-line to play out of their minds. Campbell needs to be an animal.

i really dont think the d line has to be great saturday. if they can just clog up the middle and not let bama's o line get to the second level we will be ok. michigan's back 7 can make up the difference if the d line doesnt allow them to have gaping holes. i dont think bama's qb is the guy you have to put pressure on all day. slow down the run game and match up well enough with the receivers and the game will play right where we want it in my opinion.

I agree and think the offense will look a lot more polished and confident. The biggest concern would be if the O sputters and goes 3 and Out a couple times and Bama gets ball control and does expolit the UM DLine.

Trying to get into the Opening game tonight, watching ESPNsucks preview. Eleven minutes into the show and at least nine of them devoted to Alabama. If you'd done a shot every time the all-SEC panel said Alabama, you'd be hammered.

I'll probably get jumped, but to me the only real loss on defense is Mike Martin. Sure, RVB and Heininger were solid, but they weren't great. I believe that they are replaceable and Black was getting a lot of pt on that dline last season already. We're another year into a new system, these coaches know defense. I don't think there is going to be a lot of drop-off there, especially if Campbell can finally live up to some of his hype.
