Then I know what I would do if I was a multi-billionaire to upgrade one of the corner outfield spots. I would back the money truck up and spend another $200 million on Josh Hamilton in the offseason. I would even do it over four years if that is what it'd take to get him here. A pipe dream of course, but I would do it if I had the cash. Imagine a 3, 4, 5, 6 of Miggy, Prince, Hamilton, and Victor....playstation lineup right there, lol.

I would do the exact opposite. I'd look for ONE solid outfielder who consistently contribute, who has a sense of plate discipline and who can cover ground. Victor will supplant Delmon, which is an automatic upgrade.

Peralta is such an enigma these days. If he could positively show this urgency and hitting in the regular season, I'd consider picking up the option. I said that Infante was a good player, was disagreed with by a poster and I think that poster is correct. Would love to upgrade second.

Catcher is another glaring need. I really like John Jaso. High walk rate, hit for average and there's no room for him with Montero in the wings.

The Tigers just got their asses handed to them by a team with a nice balanced line up full of players that play great defense. 2 or 3 big bats don't create a great offense.

well at least we found out how Valverde is, if he pitches again in the series, then we know for sure that Leyland is nuts.

And now the Tigers have one less arm in the pen, when he could have replaced Valverde with another player, pending league approval. It would have been worth a try.

Just another frustrating loss.. One team played great defense and grinded out at bats verses our best pitcher.. The other team hacked and flailed away yet again verses a soft tossing lefty who they should crush.. Not sure why JV did not make any in game adjustments verses PS... Can't let the same guy beat you... I hope the tone has not been set for the series... Tonight's game is a must win in my opinion if we want to win the series..I thought JV had finally figured it out in the post season.. damn irritating how bad he was last night..

Hamilton went on a jiff binge when the rangers needed him the most down the stretch and completely sucked, why anyone would want him here is beyond me. no thanks!@

Wasn't Avila towards the top of the AL catchers in OBP?

Not even close (.352) and he didn't qualify among the leaders.

Only 4 Catchers qualified in the AL this year. With a minimum of 400 plate appearances he was 3rd. So yes, he was towards the top, and no the tigers aren't looking for a starting catcher.

Only one place to park the money truck and that is with whomever is the best closer around. And send a second truck to the best setup reliever.

Pitching wins championships.

from what i heard, JV didnt have any pitches workin last night. it was just a really bad night.

and bad luck started it all. the 0-2 pitch for the first homer wasnt a bad one, fat panda just was somehow able to get to it. then that easy grounder that went off 3rd for a double instead...he kinda fell apart afterwards, but those 2 things really killed him especially with no go-to pitch last night.

To much time off, he's a very routine oriented guy. he'll be better in Game 5 IMO.

10 catchers qualified, not four. And does a starting catcher play only 116 games in a season? Yes, he was injured, but I think the Tigers can upgrade that position. I think he'll always be nicked up.

Jaso bats LH, we need a catcher that bats right handed to platoon with Avila.

Yeah but it's really hard to imagine that an organization as loyal as this one is going to try and upgrade this catcher position when his dad works in the front office. It will be Avila and Laird again next year.

If you honestly think Avilas PT is impacted by his dad working in the front office, you're an idiot.

Assuming someone does not offer Laird more money.
