After yesterday did he prove himself?

League Stats:
Passing Yards: 5th(4,145 yards)
Passing Touchdowns: 4th(33 touchdowns)
Passer Rating: 7th(93.8)
Completion Percentage: 7th(62.7%)

So I ask, is he a top 5 QB?

I would put him below Rodgers, Brees, Brady, and maybe Roethlisberger(questionable).

The 5th spot is wide open.

Id like to see stafford play a few games without johnson to really judge him. I usually dont blame a wr for a qb success, but calvin is so much of a freak like nobody else. He's like the lebron of the nfl.

And id probably have rivers infront of him still. He's having a bad year and still will be around 4000yrds and 30tds

I am gonna vote yes. I think if we fix the OL he will be even better. I was worried at the start of the year he would be scared to get hit but he stands in there and takes the hit to make the pass. He has also learned to change his delivery when he needed to. He doesn't just gun everything like he used to. He is only 23 and the future is BRIGHT!

Yes.

He got hammered all game long by the Raiders yesterday, if he had more time to survey the field he would be lethal. The guy is a great young QB who can make all the throws and all the reads.

There aren't 5 QBs in the NFL who I would trade Matthew Stafford for.

Pro Bowl bound!

Should be a third option, being that he could be one very soon. Not yet, but close, he is definitely improving as he matures, and is one of the top choices for soon being amongst the top five out of being in the top ten NFL QBs going forward IF he remains healthy.

Really this makes no sense.
He does have Johnson but he also doesn't have a running game. If defenses had to at least think the lions could run that would open it up for Stafford a bit more. So you take the good with the bad.

I think Rodgers, Brees, Brady are the top 3. After that it's kind of open. Depending on how Peyton comes back.
But i could see him anywhere from #4 to #10 and i wouldn't argue too much.

However if i was "starting a team" he might be the second QB I would consider because of age and ability. Borderline 1st.

I don't really cares where he ranks. I'm just glad we have a pretty good QB.

I forgot how gb, saints, pats, colts have a dominating running game lol.

No one said anything about a dominating run game. Just some semblance of one. With the exception of maybe Green Bay I think the other teams have had enough of one to keep teams honest. All of them are ahead of Detroit in rushing offense this year and New Orleans shitty rushing attack is eighth overall, tied for sixth in touchdowns, and fifth in yards per attempt.

Gotta vote no. The potential is there, but I'm not ready to put him in that class quite yet. Top ten for sure...

I was talking more of every year. But the pats do have a suprising good running attack every year.

Saints might have one too and not known about it.

But the lions running game wasn't that bad when best is hurt.

You mean when Best wasn't hurt? Or you think they're better off without him? I think you mean the former, which I agree with, problem is Best is always hurt....If they had a legit threat to keep d's honest Staff could up some gaudy numbers.

Best is more of a pass receiver anyway. I wish we has someone who could get us 3 yards when we need 3 yards. Or one yard when we need one yard.

Lol. Yeah I meant when best isn't hurt* I was typeing and making sure my son didn't pull the tree down on him at the same time lol.

The short check down passes are turning into the new running game. Wouldn't be suprise if it doesn't get more popular. And 5000yrds passing turn into what 4000 is in a few years.

Some records get broken. Brees on yards, I think Rodgers is still on pace for QB rating, Cam is about to break yards for a rookie. I wonder what the record is for 4000 yard passers in a season, seems to be a lot. And I think Gronk is pretty close to Td for a TE.

I could see 3000yrds and 25tds being an avg/bad year in 10yrs lol

It almost already is. Sanchez is right around the 3000 yard 25 td area. I wouldn't think anyone would say he is having anything above an average year, and he still has two games left.

With the way the rules are, you almost have to be north of 4000 and have 30+ TDs to be near the top 10 in stats

Yep. That's why I feel a little bad about marino getting his records broken. 49tds and 5000yrds is a lot more impressive than what brady or brees will do.

Rodgers. Stafford. Rivers And probably Cam will all pass for 5000yrds some year.

Yea thats why i always take records with a grain of salt. I mean Calvin Johnson already has more catches, yards, with 4 less TDs then hall of famer Lynn Swann.

But it goes both ways. I never saw Babe Ruth play, but I highly doubt he would put up anywhere near the stats he did if he had to face pitchers with the ability of pitchers these days.

That's why I think its so hard to compare players across generations.
