Dug out my baseball cards.

Through 1987, Morris' career ERA was 3.55

From 1977-1987: Sub-3 ERA: 0x, Sub 3.50 ERA: 6x Sub 4 ERA: 8x (Including 7 games in 1977). 4+ ERA: 3x (Including 1978 when he started 7x and relieved 21x).

From 1988-1994: Sub 3 ERA: 0x, Sub 3.50 ERA: 1x (1991) Sub 4 ERA: 2x (1988, 1991), 4+ ERA: 5x, 5+ ERA: 2x, 6+ ERA: 1994

After 1992, his career ERA stood at 3.73

1993 (6.19 in 27 starts (152.2 IP) and 1994 (5.60 ERA in 23 starts (141.1 IP) Ballooned it to 3.90

Seems that Morris may be the player that suffered the most from the steroid era...or he was like Don Mattingly or Dale Murphy

He just got old. You need to put the baseline of RPG in here to make any kind of point. Lot's of pitchers finished with a few terrible years, like Steve Carlton.

Runs per game, not just AL

1977 4.471
1978 4.103
1979 4.458
1980 4.288
1981 3.998
1982 4.298
1983 4.308
1984 4.257
1985 4.331
1986 4.409
1987 4.723
1988 4.138
1989 4.132
1990 4.256
1991 4.308
1992 4.117
1993 4.598
1994 4.923

I was just trying to show how his ERA ballooned after 1987..which was also about the time guys started getting big...and a couple years later, ballparks started getting small.

OK. I'm saying that while he was fading, there were less runs being scored league wide, not more.
