If he is there at 23 (which he probably will be) will Mayhew take him with his record? Mayhew seems to want to stay away from those types of prospects but after the last two weeks and with us being lower in the draft, will we take him?

If the scouts give him a high grade, you can bet Mayhew will personally interview him, the way he interviewed Jimmy Smith. He'll use that, plus the info he's already got, to form an opinion of the guy's character. It's too early to tell, but I'm gonna guess the Lions look somewhere else.

Another piece that has potential to influence this is the whole bad boy image the Lions already have. Do they say screw it and completely embrace it, or do they go even more conservative and try to get back into the good graces of the NFL. IOW, do we want a guy who will potentially get more penalties and fines while dragging the Lions through the proverbial mud?

I'm leaning toward "No!", but whatever Mayhew & Co choose to do I'll back 100%.

I did not follow Jenkins much at all this year, but I thought I remember reading an article or two saying that he was not really dominating at CB like many thought he would in Div II football outside of kick returns...Due to that and his character issues I say pass.

I've already seen 2 mocks with us drafting him. I'd rather go somewhere on the O-line or S.

Gilmore and Dennard will be better options at 23 and should still be available....i think were 22 though since denver won for arguments sake lol.

SI says Dennard

23. Detroit Lions -- Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

The Lions could also turn to Jenkins, but Dennard is a lot tougher. The 5-foot-10 cornerback doesn't back down, even though there is a real fear he'll struggle against tall receivers.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 3 years from now his name will be janitor jenkins..

This is not Millenball...If it was we would select Jenkins as we would not be drafting high enough to get a WR. I just do not see it happening unless he really improves his stock this offseason. I do not expect him to go in the first round without doing very well this offseason...

When is the last day underclassmen can declare? And is there still good talent that hasn't yet?

Jan 15th usually.

Too lazy to look up the specific date. I believe most of the high profile college kids have already made their decisions. Will be interesting to do some digging to see what is possibly still out there though. May have to do some of that tonight if nothing pops up on this thread.

They will do the interviews and see if his character could be an issue. He's gotta blow up the combine though to be a first rounder.

I thought this kid was supposed to be a stud?

He is a stud...just has issues....it'll be all about the interviews.

Ravens liked Smith enough to draft him...someone will draft jenkins in the 1st.

I think had the Lions been drafting in the 20s last year they certainly would have taken Jimmy Smith.
