I think had the Lions been drafting in the 20s last year they certainly would have taken Jimmy Smith.

I don't think so. some GM's said they wouldn't take him regardless where he fell. Mayhew doesn't seem like someone who'd draft Smith with all his college troubles.

I think Lions will try to go Corner if they can, but I doubt it will be Jenkins. I do agree he'll go in the 1st round, and that he's 1st round talent, I just don't think Mayhew would take him. Unless he really blew the interview away, and even then I think it's a reach.

Probably more likely they'll try to nab a CB or 2 in Free Agency and if they have sucess with that, probably draft Offensive Line...

I think Backus is done. Think 11 years of playing every snap finally catchin up to him. I doubt he was healthy all year, pretty convinced his Pec injury in preseason affected him this year, and he got hurt again in the Saints game.

It's finally time...

They almost have to bring him back this year. We don't have his immediate replacement, but they absolutely have to begin to groom someone.

Jason Fox ???

like 5 months ago a few on this board told me he was a steal in the 4th round and if he would came out last year he woulda been a 1st rounder.

With that injury, not likely. He would've had a terrible senior season.

I'm interested in Andrew Datko. First round talent who may fall to the third because an injury took away his senior year. He won't be ready right away, but that's fine. Let Backus start next year, and groom Datko for the future.

Don't forget Pro Bowl Peterson coming back off his 'foot injury'?

As for Mayhew's continuity. Continity my ass. The only thing that is continuous is us being ranked at the bottom of the league in rushing year in and year out. The lasting image of this year's oline for me will be Raiola being blasted into outer space by Shawn Rogers.

the problem with pick 23 is you either get a top guy at a different position or probably the 4th best ot which seems to either be a undersized sanders at 297 lbs or mike adams from osu. Imo thats like reaching for cherilus all over again....neither of them should go that high. adcock's stock could rise some in the combine...he might be an interesting pick. Other than that wed have to trade up to get decent help at ot or else im affraid continuity will be the theme once again lol.

I understand your point but is Jenkins the top guy at his position over guys like Kirkpatrick or Claiborne? Maybe.

I still think you can grab a top interior lineman Glenn or Konz and it's a start. We have to start putting it together somehow because I am tired of us losing games because of a lack of run to close it out or keep opposing teams offenses off the field facing guys like ARod and Brees. That tends to come from the interior line. Protecting Stafford should be job 1 but that can also happen with a run game. Take one of the guys above and cross your fingers Adams falls to the second which I would have rather traded up for in that scenario than Leshoure. If you can fault Mayhew for one thing it's his belief that the running back was the problem with the run game.

agreed and no I dont think jenkins is as good as dre or claiborn. I dont know that mm think a rb will fix the run game...I just think he came to the conclusion best is not a full time back in this league and wanted to correct one if his only draft mistakes. Glenn or konz would be great picks. Jenkins or dennard would start day 1, however I still think we end up getting a cb in fa. I like mercilus de...allows us to not waste $ on avril. 15.5 sacks in the b1g at 6'4" 265...dude would be perfect in our defense.

I am a Mercilus fan as well but I don't share the same feeling as some around here for getting rid of Avril. You can never have enough good young pass rushers. Here is an article from SI on the Giants which pretty much sums up my feelings around keeping young pass rushers.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/peter_king/01/16/divisionals/index.html?xid=cnnbin

I see Avril as a young Osi Umenyora.

Avril is 25 years old and getting better. I hope they re-sign him.

As for the draft. I'm warming up to CB Jenkins big time. He's a starter Day 1, a shutdown corner and a phenomenal return man. GO GET HIM!!!

Free agent LT Jeff Backus underwent surgery to repair his torn biceps muscle on Monday.Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed Backus will miss "a significant portion of time," and at age 34 he's no lock to be recovered before the start of training camp. The Lions would like to re-sign Backus, but this might finally give the front office enough incentive to pursue a long-term replacement in the draft. Jan 9 - 3:26 PM

Fix the defense? I hear they really liked that Culbreath kid, but I'm sure he's light years away still to being anything productive. I'm on the CB train. I don't give a shit if Jenkins is the 3rd or 4th best CB in the draft, the kid looked like a baller at Florida and he appears he got his head out of his ass. I hope being picked near the bottom of the first round knocks some more into his head that he shit away millions more with this wage scale, even though he's probably going to be able to afford a nice ride when he does sign on the dotted line.

If hes the 3rd best cb and the top 2 go in the top 10....im guessing jenkins doesnt fall to 23. Another pipe dream im not going to waste my time getting excited about lol. Last time i got excited about a specific player it was oher or rey rey in rd 1. we passed on both :/

and after the abortion that was the pass defense against NO and GB, you don't think MM would be a little bit inclined to look to move around the board and get himself his CB?
