Johnson for Thon Maker

Trying to find some articles on the deal. I’m not sure about his deal.

Maybe they are setting a big deal for Mike Conley?

I'm not sure this deal makes no sense, even without further trades. Johnson was set to become an RFA, and his general ineptitude to develop meant we were almost certainly not going to keep him around. He's essentially an expiring contract on a team headed for the lottery. Flipping him for Maker gives the team something of a lottery ticket (Maker has high end potential, but hasn't lived up to it). Maker isn't good right now, by any means, but he's cheap and will continue to be cheap next year while we evaluate him.

Positionally, yes, we seem to be dumping wings without getting any back. But this may also force the team to play our young guys big minutes, to see whether they can develop or not. This LOOKS like it's setting up something bigger, but that's probably because we've been conditioned to think the front office is completely unrealistic about the team (probably an accurate conclusion).

Against the knicks Maker plays 8 minutes and does not score. Mykhailiuk scores 3 points and has 2 assists in 9 minutes.

When Maker and Drummond were in, they both had a few nice blocks. Knicks couldn't go near the rim much at all. Other than that it was an uneventful return.

I watched the first half with my son. It's a good thing the Knicks are terrible, the Pistons tried to give that massive lead away the whole time we watched.
