I've seen a lot of stuff lately on where reyes could end up and Mr. I willing to spend on a couple superstars this offseason. so i say to myself "hey we could put peralta to 3rd and grab jose reyes and put him at short which would improve every aspect of our game" but then i say to myself "peralta is a great hitter and hates 3B and was a cause to his dip in production in cleveland and jose reyes isnt a good clubhouse guy along with he cannot stay healthy". since i cant decide which side i can agree on would you guys want jose reyes if he were to sign for 5 year/70-80 mil? he is Hispanic and would mix in well with all of our hispanic players and would add a lot to our lineup.

If you can get Reyes, you do it. Peralta had a fine year, but he's not Jose Reyes.

Peralta would make a solid 3B or even a 2B. Not like he'd be the odd man out.

I wanna know what all this club house stuff is. I was unaware of it but I keep hearing it being brought up.

To me if Johnny will play 3b or 2nd it improves a lot of Tigers problems. If JP plays 2B, you've solved these problems...

No leadoff hitter
No one on base in front of Cabrera
No steals
Nobody to play 2nd consistently
Austin Jackson having to hit 1st
Mediocre infield defense
and maybe more that I hadn't thought of, all in 1 player.... I wasn't big when the idea was 1st brought up but I think it makes to much sense not to if the Tigers think his health is a non issue.

For the last time this guy is injury prone. Here are his games played the last three years which averages 97 games a year over that stretch. You cannot spend 20 million a year on a guy that cannot play 100 games a year..

2009 33 games.
2010 133 games.
2011 126 games

I would be more inclined to sayhe averages 129 a year. Missing basically a full season skews those numbers too much for me. I don't consider Joe Mauer injury prone but him missing time this past year drops his games per season drastically.

You really can't do that.. The fact is he cannot stay healthy.. He has been hurt three years in a row.. Missing over 30 games a year is too much for a 20-25million dollar guy even if you do use just the last two years ... You are better off spending the money on a 3rd basemen second basemen and more pitching. Pluse Inge is under contract for another year and I do not see DD dumping him until after next year..

Plus Cleveland messed with Peralta and move him to 3rd and he did not adjust very well.. fact is I do not think JP can play 3rd or 2nd very well..

I agree with this.

You could take the 20 million and spend it better elsewhere. That money could significantly upgrade 3rd, 2nd, OF and bullpen.

I wouldn't mind but they signed Peralta to play short. Shitty thing to do to move him to 3rd. Just go get a 3B and bam we're all set or a 2B even better.

I agree 100%

Ok, how are you guys getting images in your signatures? I've tried every code I can think of. And the answer is probably really simple and I'm going to smack myself when I see it and feel really stupid...but oh well...

Select SS ranging from 27-29, away stats for last 3 years (assumes Park Neutral):

H. Ramirez 102.04 RC/650 .294 BAVG .375 OBP .453 SLG .828 OPS

W. Aybar 87.79 RC/650 .303 BAVG .343 OBP .431 SLG .774 OPS

C. Pennington 85.91 RC/650 .278 BAVG .336 OBP .407 SLG .743 OPS

J. Reyes 83.45 RC/650 .291 BAVG .333 OBP .412 SLG .745 OPS

S. Drew 82.67 RC/650 .263 BAVG .322 OBP .429 SLG .751 OPS

J. Peralta 80.97 RC/650 .271 BAVG .330 OBP .425 SLG .755 OPS

Reyes' walk rate is 18.14 PA/BB. The MLB average over the last 3 years is 12.35 PA/BB. The Tigers, not noted as a patient team, had a 13.15 PA/BB average. As you can see, Reyes' OBP is very much tied to BAVG and hence not a very good lead off hitter.

Not that he will be, but there is a strong possibility Reyes becomes the next Carl Crawford. Huge salary in contrast to his production.

You could get a player like Erick Aybar of Cliff Pennington for less than half of what Reyes will get, and still get the same production.

Or....Omar Infante to play 2B.

Infante 78.22 RC/650 .291 BAVG .325 OBP .412 SLG .737 OPS

Like Reyes, Infante does not walk much (20.91 PA/BB).

This is 100% accurate. Cleveland fans, that I know, talk about this all the time when discussing Jhonny.

Could be wrong, but Reyes and his agent may be seeking a contract that annually exceeds what Ilitch/DDs maximum is per player, since DD mentioned that they are not going to sign any more high-salary FAs. I really don't know what the Tigers FO's max is, but it may be in the neighborhood of ~15M or much more likely at least a few million less than that per season.

I think that they know very well that Peralta really wants to remain @ SS, and they STILL have another year of both him AND Inge under contract.

That may mean signing/trading for a 2B who won't exactly wow us fans, and perhaps/hopefully a LH SP to replace Penny that is a #2-3, instead of a #4-5 in the coming off-season, BUT for whom and how hard they need to go after them, through trades and/or by FA, to fill the holes in their '12 roster, likely depending upon how the team fares in the postseason...JMO.

Wonder how much Brandon Phillips would cost. He's a good player but I have a feeling he will be way overpaid for what he is.

If we could get him at a decent price he would be a huge addition...He may be to expensive though..

I'm thinkin the same. Mostly in part because good 2nd basemen are hard to come by. He's not great as a baseball player but as a 2nd basemen he's in with the best.

The Reds are supposed to be thinking of trading for some pitching for bats, would you trade Turner,Porcello or Scherzer for Phillips? I wouldn't, he is too old IMO for any of them and they want pitchers ready to step into their rotation now.
