JV has been awful the past few starts. Still having command issues.. not looking good at all. Joba has been brutal all spring, and Nathan had another shitty inning today. I have to say, our pitching in general is in huge trouble. On the other hand, JD looks like he's poised to continue his run for this offense. If our offense doesn't produce, we will not finish above .500.

Also, I think Soria should be handed the closer role based on performance. Nathan has the role because of salary alone, which is bullshit.

I don't care what it is. These guys are still trying to do what they are supposed to. We're two weeks away from the regular season.

There is nothing that proves ST numbers relate to the regular season. Why worry over nothing..Sometimes good ST stats end up being good regular season stats. Sometimes bad becomes bad. Sometimes good becomes bad and bad becomes good..

True, but when you have guys who have struggled in previous seasons, and they are showing the same signs during ST, it's a big of a red flag. JV has something to prove, which makes his performance in ST a little more key than most. Same with Joe and Joba. If these guys weren't who they are, then no, I wouldn't be worried.

BTW, 0-3 9.20 for Kershaw last spring..

Like I mentioned in my last post.. a guy like Kershaw is dominant every year. Very different than JV, Joe and Joba's situations. These guys coming off of down years, have a lot to prove.. whether it's ST or not. 3 years ago, a bad JV spring wouldn't have worried me a bit.

Point being some of the Tigers' will have better regular season's and some worse than their ST numbers..

What's Verlander thrown about 10 innings? 12? 15?
He's having command issues and it's March 22nd.

Price is having command issues as well.

JV has slider issues, Price, fastball and curve.

Again as several have said, Spring Training.

Remember what Sparky said.....after the first 40 games we will know what kind of club we have. Holds true for the manager too.

I'm concerned about jv too but i don't read much into pitchers during spring training. Who knows what he's being asked to do each outing. Is he supposed to be using the full arsenal or are they saying throw nothing over 95 mph, throw more sliders, throw more high fastballs, keep the ball down etc.

But yeah i have conerns with him and of course the BP.

I have to ask who his catcher has been. It really makes a difference. But so does the fact it is Spring Training

The pitching staff doesn't look very promising to me either. Add Greene and Simon to the list to my list of concerns. I know that it is just spring training, but that doesn't mean that our whole staff of veterans needs to get lit up by minor leaguers.

You understand it takes longer to tune up pitching after the time off than it does hitting? Also I would hope you understand the pitching is probably not at 100% for the veterans yet, they have a job and they know it, so they can take a little more time and experiment. The Minor leaguers are still fighting for their jobs.

It amazes me how many people start off by saying they understand it's only Spring Training, and then add a "but...." before they're finished.

If in the entire history of baseball, spring training has taught us one single thing.....it's that what happens in spring training does not teach us a goddamn thing at all.

What really amazes me is how the OTHER team's Pitching staff shows up and does a better job! I could see one or two teams getting it done early. Maybe a third or fourth. Somehow every one's out pitching the Tigers seems wrong.
BTW should there minor leaguers hit our pitchers the way they are. Think what there major's leaguers are going to do.

Fair enough. I am concerned about the Tiger's 30 million dollar pitcher due to the fact that he has been getting lit up by minor leaguers. I am also concerned about the bullpen with a 40 year old closer that didn't pitch well last year, and he continues to show no improvement. I am also concerned with the new pitchers that do not have a history of greatness. So far this spring they have shown why they do not have a history. No buts about it, I think that it is going to be a long year for this pitching staff.
